How much "play" do the stock motor mounts have?
Should you be able to stand there and shake the motor with your bare hands? I think my car is due for some mounts, but Im not sure how much play is normal. I hate the sloppy feel it gives throttle response but Im not sure if I wanna go with some poly mounts or just some new stock mounts.
You want some serious motor mounts? Go check out Daves R next time he has it out. The motor does NOT MOVE! The whole car shakes and rattles but the motor is stiff as Fawk.
well I saw Robs mounts recently, you can shake it by blowing on it lol. mine isnt nearly that bad, but you can move it around pretty easily. Not sure if I want mounts that are gonna be as stiff as Daves, my car vibrates and makes enough noises as it is.
I'm gonna play with my R tomorrow, I'll poke and prod a bit to see just how much it moves and let you know.
Rodney has the Mugen mounts and again it is very stiff but for some reason doesn't seem as teeth chattering as Daves.
It's a toss up for new ones, as always, comfort or performance and that fine line to balance on.

Sounds good, let me know what you come up with. My car is pretty raw powerwise, so I try to keep the rest as street friendly as possible since I do enjoy the occassional Sunday drive.
yes, poly mounts kick ***
my setup
rear= prothane
front torque mounts= energy suspension
transmission upper=prothane
engine upper = stock, maybe change to prothane later on
and yes dave's motor does not move
my ideal setup would be all three prothanes, plus the jim fab torque mounts

Motor mounts are for pussies.....get some high industrial strength twistie-ties
. Actually...i recently busted a bolt that went throught the rear mount and after replacing it there wasnt what i would call play at all. Check and see if perhaps you havent also snapped a bolt that just hasnt fallen out as mine did. If one falls out you will know immediately....i could feel it in the linkage as well as vibrations.
