Presenting the 2004 Auburn Motorsports SAE Mini-Baja Race Car...
We don't exactly have a Rally/Off-Road forum, or this would be there....
Well, guys, after 9 months, the Auburn University Mini-Baja car has finally come to it's race ready assembly point, and, as I type, is in the back of a trailer heading up to Bolmont, Quebec, with the rest of the team to compete in the SAE Eastern Division Race, along with about 150 other teams from around North America.
For those of you who have never heard of Mini-Baja, it is an SAE sponsored, team oriented extracurricular activity. Every year, each team is given a list of rules, mostly safety, and a 10 horse Briggs and Stratton non-modifiable engine, and told to build the most wicked off-road vehicle possible.
At the end of every year, the teams compete against each other in 3 different races - West, East, and Midwest. Every year, Auburn opts out of West, it being too far and too soon for the car to be completed. However, East and Midwest always have orange and blue competing.
East is traditionally a woods course, with an added stipulation that the car must be equipped with a float to cross a pond during every lap. Midwest is held on a Moto-cross circuit, and no float is necessary.
Anyways, I've typed too much, so, what you clicked to see, Car Number 13...
Final Build Pics-

That's Me in the last Pic, working on the rear knuckle.
The Car in Action (All were taken during earlier Test sessions, note the float sometimes on, sometimes off)-

Some random team Pics-
Team Co-Captain, Darrel Kroeger

Senior Designer (also Navel Architect) Mark J-witz, and Co-Captain Taylor Owens(T)

Permanant nOOb Kyle (also Sponsorship Gatherer), forming the fenders

Me, in the 02 car (This motor actually has a tuned exhaust and milled head, making it a little more interesting. It still can't keep up with 04 though)

Marc, Bo, and Grant, on what WAS the 02 Car (I didn't do it!!!)...

Our Shop...

04, 03, and Slo2, lined up...

And Finally, the Team...

Sorry for the small pics, they are the only ones I have.
Race pictures coming in a week or so!!!

You should drop by sometime after finals, the car will be back from race.
You should really consider joining for next year. It's a shitload of time, but I've learned more in that shop than all the work I've done combined.
