Default Drove Dr Pooface's Turbo 01 R yesterday

Don't know what he has for a turbo ( don't know anything about turbo's actually )
but man does that thing pull hard. Kind of makes my R feel like a Toyota Corolla.
VTEC is just explosive on boost!

I madly rowed through the gears spending way more time shifting than accelerating in the lower gears, they blew by that fast.

After the tranny swap back to the stock FD ( from his 4.9 ) the car felt way more controllable, and faster ( to me ) as more time can now be spent accelerating instead of just shifting.. The turbo torque loves the long legged gears just fine.

Pooface had it on the track today here in Mission, ( road course ) and he was nothing but smiles..

Don't know about that 250 degree oil temp though... Time for bigger coolers all around I think..

cool... will be nice to see Dylan's car at Pacific later in the month.

250F... about 121C... yea, that's kinda borderline... an oil cooler would definitely be useful

will be interesting to see the oil temps at Pacific... longer straights and stretches compared to Mission, longer periods of WOT... potentially higher temps

Pooface already has a big oil cooler and remote filter setup. It got hot on his high boost chip, which he was using to stay ahead of Johnathan on the straight.. I think the temp was under control with a lower boost...

I should have his 4.9 FD in my car by the end of the week ( no time to put the tranny back in right now..)

Ya, on low boost and race gas the car ran great. Oil stayed at about 220-230 (still a little hot for my liking) and egt's were nice and stable. Now I need R compound tires to keep the speed in the corners.

(thanks for all your help Mark. )

Just Type R owners who don't take their cars too seriously...
Love the car, not the Hype

I went boost as well, but not with the R. It's really fast but I still like all motor better.

Lag + FWD + corner exit acceleration = da suck.

Hell **** yeah!!!

And lotus, fwiw the final drive doesn't change the spacing between gears (I know you probably know that, but the n00bs lurking don't, necessarily...).

It does and it doesn't.
Speed "range" in each gear is wider/longer.

Ed -- who's longing for boost again.

I don't....not that I ever had any major issues w/ my boosted hondas, but I'm just not going to do that again.

Bah, just size the turbo correctly and lag won't be a problem.

what if you keep the stock internals? then it would be the same power as na before boost and even better as when boost is building, unless you plan on opening up the engine and changing out internals

Dr. Pooface's car will be killer once all the niggles are worked out.

I think you should get R compounds though - those Azenis won't cut it.

Not really. My B18B hatch is still stock internals. The turbo restricts exhaust flow somewhat (unitl it spools) and a good safe turbo tune doesn't exactly make for the best NA tune. My hatch will spank the crap out of my ITR all day (and modded LS1's as well ), but it sure isn't as fun controlling it out of corners.

Regardless of the turbo you will still have lag, especially if you are wanting to make good power. A split second of lag will **** the crap out of you when you are use to NA response.

Nope, I get turbo related work done by Shawn at Kenetic Motorsports, who btw is a turbo genious and an awesome welder.
