Door locks
Hi all,
I have a 98 LX accord without keyless entry. It simply has a switch on both the driver and passenger door. The drivers door locks/unlocks all 4 doors. The passenger switch just controls the passenger door. Also by enserting the Key in drivers lock and turning clockwise and holding for a few seconds unlocks all doors. - i am sure this is standard to all lx's w/o keyless entry.
Two days ago for no apparent reason the switches on both the drivers and passenger door stopped working. Also the ability to unlock all doors from the drivers door lock stopped. Today i noticed that the passenger window control on the drivers control panel and that of the door behind it will no longer work. The control switch from both respective doors work the windows fine
i have checked all fuses - they are all ok. I swapped the passenger lock/unlock switch with the drivers one. Still no luck.
Does ayone know what would be causing this. ? and how I could repair it.?
any help/advice appreciated
thank you

By your reply you have 2 different problems with your power locks and power windows.. These are 2 seperate circuits meaning one problem is not related to the other..
Do a simple test, see if any of the lock/window switches operate with the door fully closed, fully open and any increment between open and closed..
Another idea would be to try to operate the affected components while moving the Drivers side door wire harness which is located inbetween the door hinges..
If any of the components respond while doing the above procedures then its a sure sign that you have a bad or broken connections on the drivers door wire harness connector, you will see this connector(s) attached the door frame underneath the black boot that protects the wire harness..
I have seen this problem many times and because of the amount of space and length of the harness makes this a difficult repair.. You can either replace the affected pins/terminals or splice in new wire to repair the broken circuit...
I have actually consulted Honda and asked them to make "pigtail" harness to use in such a repair because none is available @ this time..
Of course, this may not be the problem and I may have wasted all this time typing
Good Luck

Anyone have a clue or willing to walk me thru this one? I have the same problem. It's not a fuse--at least it's not the one for the door locks. I put in a fuse that I knew was good but to no effect.
Is there some other fuse that controls the door locks?
I'm also not sure where to go next. I guess I need to pull the door panel off, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. It seems strange that both switches would just shut down.
On the windows, I'm guessing that there is something wrong in the unit that has all the window switches on the driver's side. Can you get into it and check out wiring and contacts?

I have the same problem with my locks (my windows are fine). I have a '99 LX, with remote entry.
What happened was that a year or so ago when I would unlock the driver's door, the passenger door lock would jiggle, but would unlock only occasionally. This got progressively worse to where the passenger side would never unlock, then the back locks started doing the same thing.
On the passenger side, it will still unlock the back left door, but not the driver's side front door or the passenger side rear door.
Strange.
It's annoying, but not so annoying that I want to take it to the dealer and let them diagnose and fix it, since that would most likely be $200 or $300.

Same Problem here on a '99 LX Sedan. I've taken the door panel off and examined the insides. The passenger side doors lock about 40% of the time now. I just gotten myself in the habit of manually locking the doors with my hand lol. I suspect the actuator, but I have no clue as to even attempting to fix that. I would love some advice also. I've also thought of just saving up and taking it to the dealer.

Just bought a '99 used. Neither rear locks worked. Slight noise apparent upon actuation, but no lock movement.
I bought aftermarket actuators on Ebay for $1.70 each. Not a simple DIY operation, but worked well for me. Only drawback is louder actuation than OEM actuators on front door.
If you want to keep it simple, purchase OEM actuator, and replace it yourself.

I don't have any noise at all. I guess it could be the actuator, but I won't know until I pull the panel. How hard can it be to put in an actuator?
Anyone know how much an OEM actuator is?

Per his boss, there are several things it could be, including the lock cylinder itself.
And there might be an interlock controller tied in with something else, which is what the signal would run through, which would explain all doors acting up at once.
This is a tough one, I wouldn’t mind spending some money on a part and replacing it myself to fix this problem, but the problem isn’t annoying enough to make me want to spend $200 or so to have the dealership diagnose the problem.

Yeah, my Honda Service guy said he would be glad to run some diagnostics on it--$$$!
The guy I talked to had never heard of all the locks going out at once and it not being a fuse. So not much help there.
I've got the Helms manual on order and will get into it when I get some free time, but you're right--it's not a big enough deal to want to spend a bunch of money on. It's just annoying in South Texas to have people waiting in the heat while you climb in and unlock the doors.
Thanks for the replies.

If you find out anything from the Helms manual or from any other source, please post back here, I'm itching to get this problem fixed by myself, and without paying the Honda dealer for diagnostic work.
This is really strange, but today it rained and everything works again just as it had about a week ago. The automatic door locks and the passenger windows (from the driver's control side) all work right. I can even lock everything now from the driver's door, which I could never do. I can't unlock everything with the key in the driver's door lock--only from the passenger door. I wish I had time to take the door off and look at the wiring to see what in the world is going on.
