I think you mean that they arn't making anymore. I agree with you though because I think SI's should be limited anyways to make it more rare. Like the 99-00 si coupes.

2004 is the last year for the EP3 but I don't think they are gonna quit making Si's alltogether. The Si will probably come back as a coupe again. It would be nice if they gave it more power and some other things.I think the hatch design turned alot of people away plus it does have some competition.
Si 160hp new around 19K
RSX-S 200hp new around 23K
SRT-4 230HP new around 21K (Ok it's a neon and I don't like it but it is fast and cheap)

The marketing strategy for the '02 Si was always wrong.
To sell for 19,000 the hatch needed the A2 motor, not the A3.
On the other hand, a great many of us bought our '02 EP3 Si for 16,000 out the door. If they still have a margin at 16,000 then honestly I think they'd sell more than they could make.
Huuulllloooooo Torrrance!! Tap tap tap...poke poke poke...anybody listening?

I agree 100% and the DC5 should have gotten the A1 motor.

Well if they had put the A2 in the EP3 like George Knighton suggested they would have had to put the A1 in the DC5 or no one would buy one.But I wish they would just give us a Type-R.

The initial ITR release in 1997 was for homologation purposes. They had to release it becasue they wanted a significantly different automobile to be able to compete in racing series, and the series required that a certain number of that exact car be on the streets.
The '00/'01 model years of the DC2 ITR was a cave in to public pressure and an image building scheme designed to boost Integra sales in the last years of its production.
It worked.
However, the biggest reason the DC2 ITR remained limited production was because of all the hands-on, truly limited production work that had to go into each individual car. Rumours persist that, although the dealers made money on each individual ITR, Honda itself lost money on every ITR that was sold in the US.
The DC5 R and the EP3 R are not limited production, and they aren't changed as significantly from their base models as the DC2 R was changed from its base model.
They could easily bring both the DC5 R and the EP3 R to the USDM if it made marketing sense, and they'd make money on the individual cars. To them, for some reason, it just doesn't make marketing sense.

The DC5 and EP3 have not been as successful in the USDM racing scene as the DC2 was, and that might have something to do with it. If they brought over the higher powered models, they'd still be living on the racing reputation of the DC2.
On the other hand, the CL7 shows some promise. It has recently been adopted by Spoon, King and RTR for some of their racing programmes, and this gives me hope of seeing a CL7 Type S or CL7 Type R at some point.
That would be awesome...the CL7's suspension handily trumps the DC5 and EP3.

I think that safety, price, economy, emissions, insurance rates, and positioning of the entire honda/acura product line strategically "against" each other are all factors that have kept the Americas from getting the new Type-Rs. When the model lines were started up here, the competition was pretty slim. Now that high-performance four-bangers are getting really hot, things could change, but who knows...
But seriously, even if we had something better, wouldnt we just want for something more?
Im happy with what I have, but someday Im making a light-wieght MR hybird of some-kind, since nobody will sell them except Lotus.

i've heard rumors the the ep3r was suppossed to come over here maybe thats what will come when the si is cut, its doesn't seem like a coincidence that on the last year the make it a five lug, and side skirts. i figured they were slowly turning it into the type r as for the dc5r never gonna happen here the type-s with a-spec package s basically our type r
I think if they stopped making the Si, and decided to sell the EP3-R, they could start competing with all of the new "sport compacts" on the market. I personally love my wife's EP3, but if they made the "R", I'd sell my hatch for one.
We will probably never get another Type-R in the USDM market, if we do it will probably be alot different from it's JDM counterpart.Basically they would just take the Si or Type-S badges and replace them with a Type-R one.If we did get something close to a JDM Type-R think how much it would cost.A Type-S Aspec is close to 30K, a DC5-R would be more than that (I think close to 35K) unless they slashed the price just to sell them. I can't see many people paying 35K for that (unless you are a die hard Honda fan) when you could get an Evo, WRX or something else with more power.

You have just described why I hate A-Spec and HFP with a passion. Either they have to go, or the R's cannot come.

that doesn't make any sense, a-spec and hfp are both the same company and are also in japan under a different name. that doesn't stop type-rs from being their. the real reason why their isn't any Rs hereis because honda thinks american are all about drag racing, which is definetly not what the type-r is made for, along with the idea that not enough people would really buying them (everyone says that they would buy if the came here, but really how many would truly buy them)

the reason he said that is because the aspec package makes the type s look more like the type r ie causeing a direct in house compitition in sales of both cars. The price of the type s + a spec pkg would equal that of the type r (not good buisness) thats why you dont see a type s in europe and japan (correct me if im worng
), give or take a thousand.
ps. if either the ep3R or especially the dc5R came to the states, i would be one of the first ones in line to get it

the only thing that looks similar to the typer (ep3 and dc5) on the a-spec and hfp packages are the wings. our type-s is just like europes version of the ep3 type-r they both lack an lsd and our type-s loses 20hp but we would lose that anyway if we got the dc5r any way(u.s. low octane gas)
a type R wouldnt be that muc more then a regular type-S when u consider that Honda would delete: cd changer + 7 speaker audio, leather interior, AC, moonroof, less sound deadening.
in exchange we'd get bigger wheels/brakes,cams,ecu, seats, some minor interior trim upgrades. stiffer chassis.
