Default dropping car with aftermarket springs=less shock durability

I would like to drop only an inch ( front and rear )and i would like to have a ride just a bit firmer.
Since i don't have much money to spend on coilover kit for now, i would like to change only the springs but i heard it could shorten the shocks life. Is it true ?
What do you guys suggest ?
Thanks

Ohh i see.... Well i think i will wait and go for a good coilover kit next summer.
Is there something that is not too stiff and give a drop of about an inch ?
Thanks again !
