i have to replace the dash peice that goes around the head unit and a/c controls and over the steering wheel. do i have to take the whole f*ckin dash out? the screws are on the backside of it.

 

Some people say you dont, but I would love
a how to on getting it off without taking the dash
out. I had to take my dash out, but it was a good
expereice. I can have that thing out in under 20
minutes now.

 

how many bolts?

 

that piece is a pain. if you remove your radio and the dash piece that goes around your gauge cluster and your gauge cluster and the plastic piece under the steering column you might have a better cahance of getting the 10 screws out. it might be less than that though.

 

i did it.. it took a good 2/3 hours. had to use a long skinny screwdriver, and a short fat screwdriver. BIGGEST PAIN EVER.

gotta remove ac/radio/clusterbezel/cluster/lowerTRIMcover to get at them.... will hurt your fingers, make you swear a lot, etc etc. its horrible but good luck =] i went into it thinking it would be a peice of cake.. i learned my lesson...

hooray!! haha i need to replace mine, since some dumbass tried to take my headunit and screwed it all up

 

dude I just took that piece off of a dash that has been completely removed and sitting in my bedroom..
and let me tell you, even with the dash OUT its a pain in the ***!! well actually its not that hard at all.. but you HAVE to have properly "shaped" screwdrivers.. one really long and skinny, and one really short with a good fat handle you can grip...
without that there are a few screws that are just too awkward to mess with.

I cant imagine doing it with the dash ON a car!
but ppl do it i guess..

 

by the way, if anyone wants to buy one, i'll sell it for cheap,
its not *MIIINTT* but its in pretty dang good shape, no big scratches, just some small scuffs here and there out of eyesight..

I bought a brand new one cuz i'm ******* obsessive complusive as ****, and swapping my interiors so I want EVERYTHING ******* PERFECT!! haha..

i'm fucked..

my dash is partly removed as of now, but the dash is still bolted in somewhere, are there bolts behind the center of it? and how does the peice from around the gauges come out....i took the screws out but it is still stuck in there, just pull harder? thanks

 

how much is cheap tad?

 

there are wireing harnesses hooked up to the dash, and SIX major bolts holding it on
the bolts are located one on each side of the dash(behind little hideyhole panels) one under the top central air vent, one under the glovebox(you'll see 4bolts on a metal bar, the top right one hold on the dash) and one in the same spot but on the left side(mirrored).. and lastly theres one under the center console(the piece that has the cig lighter).
all the bolts look the same, so once u kno wut they look like u can find them all.

then unplug anything thats hooked onto the dash and ur good to go. OH and the heater cable, its under the dash to the left.

I'd take 30bux for the piece + shipping to the bay area cali. thats about as low as I can go.

 

OH also you need to drop the steering column to get the dash out easiest,
take off the kneebolster(big annoying metal plate undet the steering wheel) then theres just four 12mm nuts holding it up, might have to unplug some stuff...
it'll just drop down outa the way
