Default Question about engine whine

I have a new 04 Civic LX Automatic. From almost the moment I got it it makes a slight whining noise when accelerating from a stop or from very low speeds. It may happen at higher speeds but I wouldn't be able to hear it. It doesn't always happen but it seems to the majority of the time. If I put it in neutral and try it there is no whine noise.

Is this normal? I ask because in my experience with my past two cars (88 Cavalier and 99 Altima) whining noises always led to (expensive) replacements.

How loud would you say the whining is? It's an 04' right? Just take it in and have it checked out and repaired under warranty.

Thanks for the (on-topic) reply. Yeah, I'm going to call them up and take it in but I like to have an idea before any car maintenance. The noise itself seems pretty low, but just loud enough to hear it with the A/C on (or off).

This is a supercharger. It doesn't help you out at all, as your car doesn't have one.

I would guess it's your torque converter whining or something else transmission related.

At least someone isn't a complete dick . From the sound of it, sounds like a tranny problem IMO too. I remember my 5 speed D16's input shaft bearing whined a lot.

Yeah, talking crap about people who don't know any better and are trying to learn is real cool... He asked a tech related question and instead of getting answers he gets made fun of for not knowing what a supercharger looks like. A lot of people on HT need to grow up.

As for the noise, i bet the car's still under warranty, drop by the dealer, they'll be more then happy to find out

Immaturity on the internet, imagine that. Thanks for the replies. I found another board with fewer froobs and they had similar suggestions.
