That sucks ***, to spent 1500 on an engine and swap it all in, but to still not be able to bust into the 14's.

Heres some things you could do to help you out.

-Practice
-Get better tires
-get a tuneup
-get rid of your 17's

Is vtec crossing over?
If i'm not mistakin i don't think it will help to shift at 9 grand on a stock b16

You need as said before:

Better tires
more driving time.

another big thing that would really help you is some dyno time, knowing where your power comes in and when it leaves is big on shift points. Going to 9 grand is great, but are you really making power there? Some guys do most dont, You might be surprised that to find out that perhaps your torque curve will start to drop off around 6-7ish and hp around 8 ish Shifting early will usually help.

the red line on your tach doesnt mean anything other then a red line....It doesnt mean = MOW POWA......shifting early and staying in your power band is more important then reving to 9500(unless you make power through the powerband up to 9500)

speaking of b16 and bat 1/4 mile times. I can't get past 16.0. Reasons i found were...

a. needs camber kit
b. shitty stock tires
c. actually had to raise the front to put stock tires back on, which puts rear tires lower (tire prob. due to camber prob.)
d. shifted at 7500. yeah? neah?
e. 60' =problem (see above) 2.593 best
f. ended 1/4 at top of 3rd. not right?
g. launched at 2500, 3000, 4000, 4500. 2500 + 4000 = best 60'

grrrr...not srue...maybe we got some of the same problems.

theres a point in the rpm range where your gonna max out and its probably before your redline(not sure what tach you got),find that spot and dont go past it...good luck

Id find where your fuel cut off is in MPH for each gear. Then shift before you hit it.

Run the b16 out all the way.

EX:

run first til you get traction.. Or end of first at 8200

Then second run it to 60mph or whatever 8200 is

Then 3rd to 85mph or whatever fuel cut off is.

That usually works for me because the tach is never right on.

So just find out where fuel cut off is for each gear in mph and shift.

Works well for me.

Are you talking jdm or usdm b16 and wether it is obd1 o4 obd2 so it may just be slow cause the motor was not in good running order or vtec solenoid could be bad but thats all i could say.

ok. So hears what I am going to do...

Take off the front 17s at the track.
Shift at 7-8000.

And I have a first gen B16a1, JDM, and I/H/E. I normally dont lanch at a certain RPM. I just ease the clutch out as effeciantly as possible. I dont spin that way.

Shift at 8000. Not 7-8000. Get some skinny *** 13's for the rear and some wide 14's for the front.

I agree with brent_G & skelly ed666:

Even if power does start to fall off at the upper end, you also need to be concerned with where you end up in the rpm range in the next gear.
You will also have better gear multiplication in the lower gears (i.e. 1st, 2nd).

17 will kill your time unless you have the power to turn them, and they are light rims. My freind uses 17in centerforce rims on his galant VR4. As for shifting. 8k is good. Get a chip for your ecu, no fuel cut-offs and no rev limiter. and a new/strong clutch. good rubber. this is what i ran last night with my B16-crx i,h,e. on 15'rotas w/BFG's and new clutch....

launching @ 4200rpms
R/T .239
60' 1.998
330 5.956
1/8 9.249
mph 74.89
1000 12.078
1/4 14.515
mph 93.35

gotta keep practicing

no ****!! back OT..all good advice so far i think..lose the bigger wheels..also..what suspension set-up are you running??that can help shave off some time if thats all set correctly..sounds like some dyno/tune time is also needed..good clutch+good shifting skills(practice, practice, practice)sounds like you have a good car with great potential

You hooked up like crazy, as your 60' time and eighth mile time shows, but your 1/8th and 1/4 mph seems a bit low. I hit a 14.3 but my eighth time was 9.2, same as yours, but with 78 mph at the eighth and 97.6 mph in the 1/4.... I need more traction
