Doing clutch, what else should I do while in there?
Looks like I can't do my clutch today as planned. Since I have to wait for more parts, what else should I do while I'm in there? I was thinking shifter bushings, and maybe flywheel.
My clutch never slipped, but started working intermittantly, and intermittantly hard to get in gear. Also getting variable engagement height at the pedal, and chattering, sometimes not disengaging fully. All this after some hard use. I assume I broke something in the pressure plate, so the flywheel surface is prolly toast. 50K mi, and prolly dragged by former owner.
I also have a bit of driveline slack, a once rough third gear syncro (went away after changing to GM FM trans fluid), and a slight howl on trailing throttle (could be throwout bearing, but I suspect trans bearing(s) and/or thrust washer/main shaft wear).
Should I get the trans fixed while the car is all apart? (New main bearings, seals, fix main shaft, replace any bad or maybe all syncros, install JDM FD). I don't want to damage the tranny, so I'd rather leave the car down a couple of weeks and do it right. What do you think?
to me for not reading the Helms carefully first. I did not order the set rings for the axles with the clutch, and given how hard I drive the R, those need to be replaced while the axles are out, so no clutch today.
