Del Sol Weight Redux
Well, and pics, info or where to reduce weight on a EG2 post up. I would like to get some ideas. I have no clue where sound deadening is. Right now i plan on removing back speakers, back panels and compartments, trunk roof holder, remove trunk lining, spare, jack, power steering, windshield washer fluid container of w/e, sound deadening. Anybody else?? Post up

Dude from that list is pretty much all you can do and have your car still streetable.
Then just start getting lightwieght ****
LCA's
SS header
get rid of cat/cats
speedglass
MMR USA one piece street front end (don't know who makes it maybe MB?)
fiberglass doors
all the supports in the car, behind quarders behind seats etc.
and then your borderline hot rod car
i mean how extreme do you wanna to?

What is the HVAC?
Is removal of the dash needed to remove te heater core?
Are there any writeups on how to completely remove cruise control?

Hvac unit is your a/c controls blower motor blah blah blah
Yes you have to remove your dash to get the heater core out and there is one bolt in the engine bay that can be a bitch to get to if your motor is in.
Removing cruise control
undo the 3 bolts on the module itself
pull that up
get under the dash and undo the tab on the pedal
pull through firewall it is out
you can also take all teh buttons out of your interior also
all and all this takes like 5 minutes.
i think there is a control unit under the dash too i forget where it is or what it looks like since my car is totally stripped to teh bone right now.

if you can get your car down to 2300 lbs. with you in it that will be pretty amazing. and if you ever consider going to a b-series that will add another 100 lbs. right there.
my sol with a b-series and bigger swaybars (pretty much the only additions I have that add more weight)
Weighed 2540 with me in it last week at the track. I do not have AC, no PS, took out passenger seat, and had nothing in my trunk (other then the top rack)
So this week, I have pulled the carpet and all the plastic **** so I could remove the sound deadning material. Looks like there is only 5lbs max of it.

Well i don't want to go TOO extreme, but i definately need to keep my AC. Driving around w/o AC in Florida is just not possible. High school kids pass out on school buses over summer/spring, whenever temp gets real bad, or you start sweating like a ****.
I was also thinking of replacing rear window with lexan but i want my up, down mechanism .
I was thinking of sound deadening but where can i find this????
It would also be cool if their is any way of reducing some weight off the top making it real lightweight. It seems possible
Oh yeah, and any extra removable weight on the doors maybe??

2540? That is really heavy! My 94 Sol Si w/ H22,p/s, full interior, no spare or jack, half tank of gas weighed in at 2450 + me would= 2590
How much do you weigh? Are you sure the scale was correct? I weighed mine at Orlando speed world dragway, and I know that the scale there is correct. My friend weight his crx at 1950lbs at his shop, and then at the track. They were the same.

u could buy the plexiglass top for the sol. i remember i used to want one for my del Sol back in the day. it's pretty cool too, minus the brackets, you can see above you very clearly. on the outside it just looks like tinted glass

I had about a half tank as well. I weigh about 160. I need to get back down to the 140's, but whatever. I am not 100% sure of the acuracy of the scale, but it was at Martan drag way in South Haven (or somewhere on the west side of michigan)
about taking weight off the top, there really is no weight. The top weighs like 20lbs, not really that much. when I autocross, I always take it off (if its not raining) and just lay it on a blanket. The CF ones don't save that much weight, and they pretty expensive. I want to eventually change to a real header (lots of weight there. The Oem GSR one is extremly heavy being cast iron) a CF hood (sols hoods are extremly heavy compared to an OEM teg hood) and a CF trunk. Defently could save about 40lbs there, but right now, it is all about how much money I have, and with college coming up this Fall, I dont have alot to play with.
Alright, last edit. I do have 15in circuit 8's (weight reducition), Teg radiator (little extra weight with extra coolant and all) and ITR lower LCA's (again, more weight) The ITR rear sway is 10lbs, if not a little more from what I remember.
