Default Help, 94 Ex Coupe Sohc Failed MD Emissions (mostly stock)...

The car is a 94 Civic Ex Coupe with a stock d16z6 engine.

The car used to have a cold air intake, RS-R 4-2-1 1 piece header, and 2.25" custom catback, stock cat and everything else, uses 87 octane gas.

I converted it back to stock for my sister and now it has, an oem intake system, RS-R 4-2-1 1 piece header cause I thought it would give her no problems if I left it on, 2.25" exhaust piping with a oem muffler attached at the end so I know there is some bottlenecking from the 2.25 to whatever an oem axleback size is. The only thing I can't remember is if the spark plugs are bosche duals or ngk's if that makes a difference. I know now that ngk's are perfect for honda's but I didn't know then and I had bosche plugs in it.

State Standard --> What the car tested at
HydroCarbon 1.0000 GPM --> 1.3447 GPM FAILED
Carbon Monixide 20.0000 GPM --> 14.8189 GPM PASSED
Oxide of Nitrogen 2.2000 GPM --> 2.1377 GPM PASSED
Carbon Deoxide NA --> 269.9597 GPM NA
Tampering Inspection PASSED
Fuel Cap PASSED
Catalytic Converter NA PASSED

I'm in AL and my sister and the car are in MD so I got these results from her on the phone so I can't see the graph or anything so sorry that I can't give you pictures of the graph.

Well, all that failed is the HydroCarbon test. Can somebody help me understand what this is and how the fix the problem. I was really surprised cause the car is pretty much stock now. What could be wrong?

Here is a picture of it before but as I said, the only thing still on it is the RS-R header. Everything else is back to stock, so stock intake and ground kit was removed.

thats what I was thinking, hell, its the only non oem part on there. Well, if anybody wants to trade + cash for a oem header and this one, nows the chance

But that what failing that part means? So its nothing wrong with the oem cat or anything? She never said she was getting any check engine lights so I'm guessing it should be working fine.

So is that the final verdict, the header?

it aint doing anything, keep it. You didnt fail by alot, just get a good gas cleaner. I usually put one in while im very low on gas then get like 3 or 4 gallons, let that run down, then the day of inspection get like a half of tank and put another cleaner in. Also rev you car b4 they take it from you, keep the Cat warm. I bet with those 2 things you will pass no problem.

its not the header... check your o2 sensors and cat. i run MD emmissions no problems when a 4-1 2.5in header and a test pipe. your car isnt running right man. dont blame it on the header though that will just make more work for you.

you could also try changing the oil and putting in a clean air filter, or change out the fuel filter, new spark plugs and wires...

Or just clean all your ignition contacts with some contact cleaner and a bush, no need 2 replace them just for the sake of emmisions

Good stuff, you can buy it at Autozone. I've seen some haggard *** cars use this to get through emissions.

NOx failure of things to check:
1. EGR System
2. O2 Sensor
3. Timing/Spark Advance
4. Catalytic Converter
5. Incorrect/faulty thermostat
6. Coolant Temp Sensor may be open
7. MAP Sensor
8. MAF Sensor
9. Other sensors/switchs (uhhh yeah, ok)
10. Fuel Injection System
11. Faulty On-Board COmputer
12. Computer PROM
13. Internal Engine Repair

High HC Failure:
1. Spark Plugs and Wires
2. Timing Spark Advance
3. Vacuum Leaks
4. Other Ignition Problems
5. O2 Sensor
6 Evaporative fuel system
7. Fuel Injection System
8. Air/Fuel Mixture Adjustment
9. PCV System
10. Catalytic Converter(s)
11. Throttle Position Sensor
12. MAP Sensor
13. MAF Sensor
14. Other Sensors/Switchs (dohh, again)
15. Computer PROM
16. Internal Engine Repair

High CO Failure:

In the case of carb engines, up to 85-86
1. Choke System
2. Carburetor Repair

In the case of fuel injected engines, from 1986 on,
1. Fuel Injection System
2. Induction system problems
3. O2 Sensor
4. TPS
5. MAP
6. MAF
7. Coolant Temp Sensor may be closed
8. OTher sensors/switches (I guess this is a CYA thing (cover your ***)
9. Valve train problems
10.Jumped engine timing belt
Plus...
Idle speed adjustment
Air Filter Condition
Thermostatic Air Cleaner
Air Injection/Reaction System
EVAP fuel system
Oil and Filter Change
