Default Guru Knowledge - Name Your Mentors

Guru Knowledge - Name Your Mentors

I would like to think I am a good teacher but I am even a better student. The following are people I look up to and rely upon their opinions re engine work.

Just thought this info would be helpful for others as well.

Rocket Mentors:

1. MAX_CFM. Porting, Engine Building, Automotive Machining etc. Favorite saying "Don't tell anyone...", "You know the deal..."

2. Omniman. Engine Building, Porting, Drag Racing, etc. Favorite saying "Don't ask me, I've got to have some secrets..."

3. TEAMGENDAI. Tuning, Engine Building, Transmission Building, Drag Racing. Favorite saying "That's gansta....", "Gee it up", and "I am Bubba..."

4. Javier Gutierez. Tuning, Engine Building, Porting. Favorite saying "Listen bro...", "serious..."

5. DonF. Engine Building, Engine Bearings, ITB's, DTA Fuel Management, , Engine Dyno's. Favorite saying "Robert Don Flores here...", "Between me and you..."

6. Internet in General. You can learn from anyone. AllenP on this board made me aware of instaneous crank acceleration/harmonics. Things became alot clearer after I incorporated that concept into my thinkig.

I honestly, don't thinkI could narrow it down. There are so many people that I have learned stuff from over the years. If I had to name a few people that have taught me things, that would be familiar to people on the board, I'd have to say. : Omniman,Rocket, Tony1, Arturbo,Earl, FR Geoff and many many many more. I'd just like to say thank you to anyone and everyone that enjoys helping others. Keeping the information flowing amongst ourselves, is the only way to keep our industry in a forward motion. I'd hate to see the development, and progress go stale, and stagnant. Thanks especially to people like Rocket, and Omniman, who are constantly testing stuff, and showing us all the results!

they are the ones that can teach valuable not misleading information on the web. and it's unbiased so their opinions are never "buy this product cause it's better." they can break it down into detail and find out what is really best. not just word of mouth or JDM YO!!

Brad Z

The pgmfi.org collective, most notably Blundar, Blake, and Evan.

edit: I'd just like to say I've not pestered Brad much, but I know he'd answer Q's if I asked them... maybe not the definition of mentor, but I consider him there if needed. I use that more as an impetus to not waste the man's time. I'm self-motivated and would only ask if I couldn't figure something out on my own or needed someone with the sort of real world experience that would cost too many dollars for me to obtain on my own.

Wow I made the list.

1. Larry Widmer of ENDYN The ultimate expert on Head Porting, engine building and internal combustion. Favorite saying, "what chu taking about fooooooool?"

2. Tony1 of Norad NORAD He can do it all from fab work, engine building, wiring, tunning and ideas. Favorite saying, "let me know.."

3. My parents. Not only me mentors but my heros for the accomplishments they have done to give me a better life. To suffer while growing up and working hard to accomplish and be succesful for the benifit of their children. Major to my parents.

4. Ben Strader EFI101.com EFI Zen Master. One of 2 people that I know that can make a 2-step not pop and sound like crap. It has a nice hum to it. Favorite saying, " Art's abortion clinic. No fetus can beat us."

I had no mentors but myself.. but i would say i learned alot for many years of street racing for high dollar amount. the pressure of it all has taught me to stay cool like a cucumber when the HEAT is on..

But I will give props to my former team members:

peter yem, PYR, OG lucky racing

mike scott, lucky racing

mike escamilla, lucky racing

jake's racing, lucky racing

sheng chao, jdm honda parts, lucky racing

and witch-head, viet lam, andrew, ron and ed bergenholtz from WICKED racing

and to everyone I have taken thousands of dollars from racing in the middle of the night somewhere..
