Default Alert!! S2000 can be easily stolen

The other day, i got back my S2000 after it was stolen. THANK YOU LO-JACK! The only thing was missing was the ECU. The doors, windows, rag-top, and ignition were all intact; no sign of force entry.

Also, i had my VIN# covered from the very first day i got the brand new car. So, i know for fact they didn't cut a key from my VIN.

Does anybody know if there is a master key for 2000+ S2000 going around?

Thanks...

I heard of a way that thieves use to get around immobilizer, it sounds like thats what they did in your case. I don't want to say what to do just incase a thief is browsing the site for ideas.

You are very lucky to only lose your ecu. They usually get stolen for seats, headlights, antenna, ecu, and tail lenses.

VTECorona, good luck with your S2k. Keep her in a garage. You seem to have very shitty luck with cars..

Yes, I am very aware of this. The only modding I will probably do is front lip and I\H\E. The car is already a beast, stock. I will also be doing some serious security stuff.

The police, insurance co., and others suspect that pro's steal S2000, then ditch it for a couple of days. If the car is still there, then they'll pick it back up to do the strip. Why they do this, to be sure the car does not have any tracking systems on board. Smart guys... cuz i did have lo-jack installed, and the cops found my car in less than two days.

So nobody has any idea how they got in and turned the ignition cylinder without causing any damage? I know how they got passed the immobilzer (and is really simple). But not sure how they bypassed the mechanical part yet.... Any ideas anybody?

All it takes is for a thief to know someone that works at a dealership and can cut keys with VIN #'s. I'm sure it happens.

what thieves really do when they want your car.. they don't break into yet.. all they do is tow it and not bother with the alarm till later. Then somehow just jimmied your lock

I agree with that. I think that's what they did to bend my clutch pedal and remove my autolock. Theres no way they could have done it with people walking by my car all day.

They couldn't see my VIN # cuz i had it covered. I really, really doubt they would tow the car and ditch it. If they had that kind of capability, they would have stripped the car in a u-haul truck.

So no other ideas how they got in and turned the iginition without doing any damages to either?

I really want to solve this mystery so i can prevent this type of easy access to our S2's

There are other ways to get a VIN besides just reading it off the tag. Good to hear your car was recovered.

Have you tried to use a flat-head screw driver to start it? I thought the same thing when I got my prelude back after being stolen. It appeared totally fine but you can put just about anything into the keyhole to start it.

You can't be too cautious though, thieves definitely browse forums for ideas and stuff like that.

if anyone wants to steal something, they'll figure out a way to do it. It's beneficial to buy a garage/rent a garage to park the car in as opposed to finding out how they steal the cars.

seems to be a real problem,
whats weird is the fact ur VIN was covered.
seems like then, its not through dealership key copy.

either way, if he is trying to find out how to steal one or not.. that doesn't matter.

the important matter is that NOBODY is going to post how they could have stolen it here on this forum...

NOT EVEN A HINT of how to, because you can look up **** online or on google.com and find out secrets..

Just a heads up guys for anybody who is thinking about "solving" this problem by posting how to do the act.. Just keep it to yourself.

Default Re: Alert!! S2000 can be easily stolen (simplywil)

I have had 2 cars stolen in the past 4 years (2 different Honda Preludes). And I now own an S2000. My 2 Preludes both had extensive (and expensive) anti-theft systems, but both were taken anyway.

So I'm taking a different approach to security with this car... You are right in that the S2000s are easy enough to get into (soft top), and the ECU is easily accessible. So instead of focusing solely on trying to stop them from taking the car, I'm approaching it by looking at what the thieves want from the car and then making my car an unattractive choice for theft.

So what does the typical S2000 thief want? They want the parts that are in demand, easy to take off the car, easy to sell, and difficult to trace. On the S2000, I think those parts are primarily the seats, the wheels, and the steering wheel. For the seats, there are McGard style seat locks available. For the wheels, use wheel locks (and NEVER keep the wheel lock key IN the car). For the steering wheel, a club can be a theft deterant for the car. But more importantly, it's almost impossible to remove a club from the steering wheel without damaging the steering wheel and/or the airbag. And a damaged steering wheel is pretty worthless if the thief wants to take it for the sake of selling it.

...Just some random thoughts on S2000 security.

Andrew

^^^

good points.

what i do is park my car underneath my car port in my backyard. it's gated off and locked everynight!

if they really want it...they have to jump my gate and maybe get shot
