Hi, I have a b18c that is about to be dropped into my crx. I have noticed that it will be much easier if I used a manifold that sits the tb higher up. The Skunk2 was just announced carb certified for there gsr manifolds, and I was wondering if you think the skunk2 will fly with the refs. The manifold looks nothing like the gsr manifold, it remembles the type r one. But the fact that it is carb legal, makes me think that they cant give me crap for it. What do you think, thanks, Ryan
HEY just wondering are there any marks/stickers to distinguish thats its a Skunk2?
if there is, it should not matter now that its CARB certified right?

um sorry but what does the ECU have to do with the Skunk manifold question?
But since we're on the ECU subject, as far as I know NO Ref will allow any ECU to be used other than the one corresponding to the motor

chipped ecu? The only reason the ecu would be an issue is if he kept the gsr manifold, because....no it wouldnt matter.
i dont know what to say

there is no stickers or markings on my skunk2 mani, yes you can pass a smog ref if you have everything hooked up properly(vacum lines and stuff)
Skunk2's site says they are carb EO pending..... as long as the ref is following the rules he will require that the manifold is carb legal.
about the ecu.... the p72 should function fine on the skunk2 manifold. It won't throw a code in the absence of the IAB. It might not be optimum for performance, but if the ref is gonna get strict about things it should be able to at least let you pass the ref's inspection.

lol,ya dood i dont know what kind of refs some of you go to but the ones i find dont look for anything, they just run it..good luck anyways, everyone should pass eventually, may have to do some adjustments..

I called skunk today, and they said all the sensors on the gsr im fit on the skunk2. But I am still having a problem with this. If I have a different IM, wont the vac lines be in different places, and it wont match a gsr im vac diagram, and it dosent seem like I will pass.
Because I know when smogging a b16a gen 1, you have to run a U.S. obd1 IM, the jdm one wont work (different vac diagram/sensor locations). So, a skunk2 one seems like it would be the same type of deal.
Well, Im running a stock usdm p72 ecu. And skunk2 just got the carb approval for there gsr mani.
Some refs do check ecu codes... I know from people on this site telling me.
Well, ill call skunk again in the morning,
So does the IAB sensor bolt to the skunk im? Thanks, Ryan

I've recently gotten my car together and it's pretty much what you are thinking about.
B18c, OBD1 conversion, P72a1 ECU, and Skunk2 intake in a 89 Civic Si hatchback.
The ECU doesn't know that the secondary intake tract is not there and does NOT throw any error codes!
I think that when I take it to the Referee, I'll bring the vacume diagram for an ITR, which is what the intake manifold is fashioned after.

Wes, do u have a picture? What t-body are u using? What t-cable? do u have the black box (name escapes me...) under the IM hooked up? Thanks so much!! Ryan
PS, did u just call skunk and they sent the carb stuff?

I called skunk like 2 weeks ago because I heard the manifold was now CARB approved. I told them I needed to get a sticker for it, and after he asked which application it was for and my address, it was sitting in my mailbox about 3 days later.

haha thats funny. btw, nice site and car.. I'm planning on documenting the whole process of my swap too. Good luck with your BAR test!

jdm gsr with skunk manifold.
gsr throttle body with 90 integra throttle cable and ITR bracket. You must you use a different pulley on the throttle body , i used a 90 Integra one. You could use a d16 one but it makes the the throttle touchy as hell.
the black box is just for the IABs, the only other vacuums u need is the charcoal canister related items.

The ref in my area down in southern cali checks ecu.
Speaking from knowledge, not out of my ***.

holy crap - over engineer - you could say that, nice shots though with the motor bieng out of the car, lovin the hard pipes - if i could thread jack real quick, i have the same set up and i just run a longer hose to the pcv - is that just ghetto tech or does doing it the correct way have any advantages mechanically
