Default Ticking Noise

When I first start my car and take off it makes this loud ticking noise. It sounds like it is coming from the exhaust system. I was thinking that it may be the exhaust gasket. Any suggestions? I am selling the car and want to be able to inform the buyer of what he may have to do. Thanks!

What motor do you have? Is the ticking constant?

I have a 1997 Honda Civic LX. The ticking goes away after the car warms up.

Mine make the same noise but do not go away when the car is warm.

I agree, it could be that you need them adjusted.

Where is the general area the sound is coming from? You said it sounds like its coming from the exhaust...so that would lead me to believe the sound is coming form under the car and not under the hood?

i am almost positive it is your valves, adjust them , or have it done and see if that fixes it.

Check your exhaust manifold, if you have been running rich it might have heated up and cracked, like this....
