Default oil pressure...HELP!!!!

my friend has a 94 integra LS vtec 12:1 compression, b16a2 head....

the problem is that the oil pressure is only 55psi at redline....NO LEAKS...excellent compression....the headgasket is great... freshly built... I am thinking that there has to be an internal leak in the head that is draining back into the oil pan...im not exactly sure.

any help would be greatly appreciated

ben

well if i remember correctly stock oil pressure is supposed to be around 50psi@3000rpm. the whole point of a oil preasure guage is to warn you of a problem. if its always 50psi then great, its the day you see it go to 20psi and stay there.

Its my car thats having the problem. Its an ITR oil pump and ITR water pump. The thing is that it was at 75 to 80 at load. It is an autometer electric gauge. Come on guys i need help.

Well if it was a fresh engine then oil pressure will always be higher. When the engine starts breaking in and when the oil starts breaking down, it will have lower pressure. I don't think 55 psi is anything to worry about. If you think so then maybe replace the oil pump or start tearing down the engine to see whats up. Or maybe your oil pressure guage isn't reading right. I kind of doubt that though.

i just got mine put back together and im showing 85-90 at 3000 rpm... id start lookin into that... Did u get a used ITR pump or a brand new one? If you got a used one mabye the gear is worn... You can take it apart and check the specs on it... I reused my stock B18B1 oil pump with 147.000 miles and im still pullin mad oil pressure...

The motor itself has about 3,000 on it. I got the pump ne when I forst did the LS/VTEC about a year ago, since than it has been rebuilt, new rings, bearings, and gaskets. The tranny blew about 2 months ago so while he was waiting to get the new one he pulled the head to get P&P, and added my old GSR cams. Im wondering if he didnt partially block one of the lines with teflon tape or something to the gauge.

if a line is blocked the the preasure will be higher. i still think its ok. its under load that the preasure should be up. redlineing it in nuetral might not raise the preasure.

oil pressure reads off of you main bearings, i would probably hook up a hand held oil press. gauge see what it reads, maybe change to a thicker oil, or check the relief spring in the pump housing for dirt or metal, cheap oil filter can cause low pressure, you should be showing 70-75 psi on a newly built engine (under load 4500 rpm and up)

the problem has been fixed...it was actually a problem with the guage itself....
