Insurance, LS vs. a GS-R
As far as insurance rates go, s there a huge difference between the LS and the GS-R? I kinda figured the B18C DOHC VTEC and the "GS-R" name would be the main reasons for those cars to be insured at a higher cost than an LS. I've been told these two things. They were two different answers and it's sorta confusing to determine who's right and who's wrong.
Guy #1 said: The insurance for the Integra GS-R costs almost twice as much as getting an LS.
Guy #2 said: It doesn't matter whether or not it's a GS-R or an LS. They're both classified as sports cars, to the insurance companies. There's little to no difference in insurance rates between the two.
I dunno, my current car, which is a 92 Integra RS was only classified as an "Acura Integra" by AAA. The trim model was never stated nor did they care to ask. I was just curious about this. Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question. >_<
I'm also curious about how much some of you guys pay for insurance? Or which company you guys can recommend? I'm 20 and registered with AAA. They're charging my parents an assload of money and that's even when I'm registered under my dad's truck while my teg is under my mom's name.

yes, Integs cost an assload to insure. I don't know abouut them not caring what trim you have. I am insured under AAA, and we pay different ammounts for our 94 Integ LS, and 94 Integ GSR.
Yea, I forgot to realize that the VIN number makes a great difference as well. Like the "DC2" designation opposed to the "DB" with the sedans or something. Cuz I might get another 'teg or a Nissan S14 240SX.
Totally depends on the company, just call around and get some quotes. Most will seperate the non VTEC models from the VTEC ones, and in my experience, you'll be between 100-200 dollars more for the GSR+.
The main reason ANY integra costs so much is theft. #1 stolen car in america. The GSR engine is worth a LOT more than LS engine so that makes a difference.

$4850 to $8000 a year for insurance! Man it sucks to be young and trying to own a HONDA! I am 25, on my parents insurance still (for discounts), clean record, and I still pay $1800 a year for my GSR. Plus I live in Southern California.

thats what i was told. 3k per year for gsr and 1.5k for ls ... i opted for the latter

I posted something like this before from the info I got from my brother who is a broker.
It really depends on the company and their target market.
1. Some treat all Integras the same
2. Some treat RS, LS, GS the same, and GSR, ITR the same.
3. Some treat them all differently.
4. Some will just rape you no matter what you own.

My insurance company (State Farm) just took my cars VIN #, told me I had a two door GSR, and adjusted my insurance accordingly. I used to own a 1973 VW Super Beetle and paid something like $1200 a year. I guess paying $700 more to insure my GSR is not that big of deal.
the most stolen car in america is the honda accord not the integra
i pay 4700.00 almost per year for my 2001 gs-r with one at fault accident. thats getting raped. this price is by far the cheapest price ive gotten though. for all ny/nj/penns. residents call Colonial Penn ins.
the gs-r is considered a "high performance vehicle" by insurance companies i called around lookin for estimates when i first got my car. so its basically a 4 cylinder vette
I pay 1100 a year on my LS, with one speeding ticket. I was told it would be a little over 4000 a year to insure a GSR, or Si, or Prelude, basically any car that had DOHC vtec. I hate insurence companies.
