Any way to indentify a motor without VIN on it?
If a USDM swap doesn't have the VINs on it, is there another way to indentify where it came from? Friend is motor shopping and wants to avoid stolen motors as he knows what it's like
aren't the VINs just on the little green plates? one on tranny and one on block?
One he found has neither of them

Well on the tranny it's either a plate rivetted on or a sticker that just falls off after a few years. But as for the block it should be listed right under the engine code. And all my engines have been stamped on there.
well under the engine code isnt that the block serial number. i know newer b series have a vin plate on the block its near the oil pan. dont know about the older bseries. i would think you can run the serial numbers to check to see if its stolen

Doesn't the block serial number have to do with the vin for the car. I remember about 6 years ago I was at sacramento raceway. CHP was there popping hoods and running the numbers on the block below the engine code. They had a list of stolen motors. So I can only assume that it would tell you the answer to that question. Call honda and ask them. They will tell you if thats right or not. Let us know.

Cool. Thats what I thought too. I just looked at my GSR. VINs of course match up
but serial #s are a different set (as in not taken out of VIN)
So if I got the serial #, I can call the police and ask them to run it for the VIN and see if it's legit?
