Default Mugen Twin Loop for my setup ?

I am in the position to get a Mugen Twin loop muffler only for my car (I need more QUIET !) My N1 is a noisy ****.... but anyway...

Will the Mugen Twin loop muffler flow well for my setup ?

GSR, bored, 11.5:1 (no header yet), 2.5" cat back, no resonators.

I can get this puppy for about $150.... if it's in decent condition... should I grab it up ?

ya , the mugen still has good flow, being loud always dosent mean power.

Btw if it is a real mugen twin loop just buy n-e way at that price

I have a mugen twin loop on my EG. It's 2.38" so its not exactly a 2.5" system.

The only thing I've noticed about this system is that it does get louder as time goes by. I ran a straight pipe for a while and a mugen programed ecu. It made the muffler quite a bit louder. When I first got it it sounded pretty much stock...now its pretty loud, even with a glass plack in place of my old straight pipe.

I've been reading that it gets louder.... this exhaust is coming off a CTR in Japan, so I can assume it has at least 30-40k on it.... already broken in.

I also read that w/o a resonator, the glass packing can get frazzled, increasing the dB level at low to mid rpm... is that so ?

I just found out I can get it for under $150 now.... so should I go ahead and get it, if it's genuine ? It would replace an Arospeed N1 with 2.5" inlet.

I don't mind the reduction to 2.38"... I'm not really looking to increase performance... hell, I'm stepping down from a straight thru...heh

Well, as far as I'm concerned:

Even though it has gotten louder as the days go by, it still sounds better than 90% of all other systems on the market. It has it's own sound and tone that is very beautiful. Plus(probably sounds dumb) but I love the tip on the muffler.

For $150, sure why not? Real mugen at about 1/3 of the price.

Funnily enough... the tip is the only part that scares me aesthetically. IMO it's looks kinda generic.... but better than my fart can N1 does...lol

So, Waffles, if you had a 2nd chance... would you buy it again ?

well....im a slightly different person now.

If all I wanted was a good sounding axle back system, you can bet I would buy it again. If I wanted to be all JDM and whatnot(which was my plan when I bought it in the first place)then I would buy it again.

But I'm trying to build a motor this summer and I am going to milk out all the power I can. I will be selling mine shortly, in favor of a FULL 2.5" exhaust system.

If I had the money, I would buy the 2.5" Hytech catback exhaust system. Mugen style muffler but full 2.5".

I'm considering just unbolting for the track... I've been the 2.5" route and honestly, I don't need every ounce of Hp at the expense of my eardrums.

If you ever hear a 2 litre w/ 2.5" all the way and no silencer on a daily basis... you'll understand my debacle.

It gets even louder with bigger cams.

I have one for over 2 years now, love it.

As far as losing HP, it was barely noticed. I dyno before and after with the Mugen muffler, a loss of .5 HP.

Looking for other opinions on exactly how loud it gets after the 'break in'. Are any of you others running a resonator ?

Good to know!!!! Maybe I won't sell mine now.

I do however plan on running a high flow cat and straight through glass pack with either muffler setup.

It definitely sounds great....it is VERY quiet at part throttle operations, and sounds a little quieter than most canisters at WOT. Probably comparable to a Greddy SP at WOT.

Oh wow... greddy SP sound levels ? Awesome... the SP is pretty quiet considering.

When you say 'comprable', would you say the twin loop is:

1) Slightly Louder
2) As Quiet
3) More Quiet

Than an SP ?

X2 (picky...ain't I ?)

at idle and part throttle its as quiet...at wot its probably only slightly louder.

But if you don't have a cat or resonator, kiss that last statement goodbye.
