Taking rear shocks out of my 98 hatch...need advice~
can somebody tell me if its hard to take out the two rear shocks? i know there blown cause they are way too bouncy, so i'm thinking of taking them out myself. I have ground controls so i won't need a spring compressor i know that.
So is it just the two bolts on the bottom of the shock and two bolts on the top i need to take out? Also do i need to take off the seats to remove the inner panel so i can get to the top of the strut?
Thnx

Taking out shocks is incredibly easy, just remove all the things that are connected to them - no real science to it.</TD></TR></TABLE>
The hbs have the cover but no need to remove the seats. Just pop open the small panel and walla, there are your two bolts... as I recall its not to hard to remove the top bolts as long as you have a little patience.. and it is very easy to disassemble the rear struts. I always had to have a friend to stand on top of the drum brakes though to remove the shocks...

To get to the top 2 shock bolts you need to remove the speaker cover and rear speakers. Use some extensions and go to work.
As far as the bottom you just need to remove the one bolt that goes through the bottom fork of the shock and the LCA. There might be more, but just look and see what it's connected to.

You also need to remove the bolt that holds the LCA to the drum assembly. It is right next to the bolt holding the bottom of the shock on. That way, you can drop the LCA down and slide the shock out. It's really easy. The only pain is getting the bolts loose and out. After that, it's a breeze.
Yeah, once you get the first bolt out use it to tap the other bolts most of the way out once they're unthreaded. Having a jack to help get the assembly back together helps as well.

Yeah, I did my whole car myself and you need mad muskle powa to get the bolts back in without help! Man, I felt like someone had kicked my *** the day after I did the suspension.
But it was worth it.

Thats only if you have the regular springs right and cause you have to compress them to put them on....i have ground controls so it should be that hard should it?!

No that's not what I was talking about. I put in gc's as well. I'm talking about putting the LCA bolts back in because when you take them out the rear brake assembly raises up and you have to push it back down and hold it there with the holes lined up to put the bolt back in. It would be no problem with 2 people, just a little hard by yourself. I was able to do it, though, and I'm no muscleman.
