new here need advice..
hey whats up guys ... im new to this forum i come from jmi... now i recently purchased a 88 crx hf... well the body... and the guys registration expired on nov 03... so what do i tell the dmv? cause to register dont i need to smog and stuff... and im not putting a gsr motor till another month or more.... so what do i do...any advice or something?
you can go to the DMV and put it on "non-operational" status until you finish your motor swap. That's what I did cause my smog came up this month and my stock motor had already been yanked. When I finish the swap, then I'll go to the referee and get it all BAR approved and finish up the registration.
so i have to go get refereed once im done finishing the swap????? are u seriouse..... that sucks.... oh does anyone know how to put a gsr motor in the crx???? word for word what i need??? and how hard it is...
you would be best off using the search feature for questions like this.
here is a thred i found when i searched for b18 crx

you dont HAVE to get your swap passed by the referee, but its getting harder and harder to find a place that will smog an EF with a fat "DOHC VTEC" on the valve cover. They're gonna know its not stock.
Also when you get pulled over, if a cop suspects you have any modifications, he can have you pop the hood and when he sees that motor and no sticker from the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) saying that you did the swap correctly and legally, he'll send you there ad you'll have to do it anyways. I say do it right from the beginning and stay legal, because its really not all that hard. Good luck!

cant post more than 5 times a day???? who thought of that???/ well any way ..... can the crx pass with a gsr motor in it???? and what is exactly a legal swap??? do u guys know .... what do they check for???/ bump////
whoa easy with the question marks there
you can only post 5 times a day because you're still a "Trial User." This will go away in a few days.
Yes the crx can pass with a GSR engine. The engine just has to be from the same year or newer as the car it is going in. In general, it just has to be wired up as a GSR would be wired up in an actual GSR. This means either obd1 (like the 94-95 Integras) or obd2 (96+) It must also retain whatever smog equipment came on that engine. It must also use a USDM ECU specifically for that engine. (for a GSR, that means a US-spec P72 ecu)
If you have any aftermarket parts, such as an intake, or header, then when you take it to get passed at the referee, you MUST have a CARB approved intake/header.
They also check to make sure all vacuum hoses and such are running to the correct places and they do a tailpipe test to make sure it passes emissions.
There are some other things that i probably forgot, but I cant think of them right now. Try doing a search on BAR (short for Bureau of Automotive Repair) Swap, or Bar Approved or something along those lines.
Hope that helps..
