Default LS/vtec timing belt????

I have a 90 LS block mated with a 95 GSR head, i am using the water pump of an LS....i think. The problem is the cam gears do not line up perfectly at TDC maybe a tooth or half tooth off. Am i using the wrong timing belt possibly?

if you use ls water pump, you need ls timing belt
the non vtec water pump will say 19t in it instead of 22t for the vtec one

the belt will never fit if you use mis-matched pump/belts...

eg the GSR belt wouild be too big if you uesed a LS water pump...

and the LS belt would be too small if you used a GSR pump...

sounds like you are using a LS belt with LS pump?

not sure on what belt or pump i have! but your saying there is no way the belt and pump are mismatched cuz it would not fit right?? If so then what could be causing the cam gears to be a half tooth off|?

there is only 3 different kinds of b-series tiing belts...

b16, b18 vtecs and b18 non-vtecs

b16, cause of shorter block

all others goes by the water pump thats all

the reason it is off is probably becasue it takes a fair bit of practice/patience to get it on and all lined up...

just keep trying

ha ha,

all i can say is to keep trying.

make sure the cam gears are set to 0,0

and make sure the tensioner is set to full loose when you start putting the belt on...

then tighten it once the belt is fully on.

no - it *should* tension itself after a few rotations, then do the tensioner bolt up....
