My friend has a 95 Si with a Greddy welded on to his stock mid pipe, its not that loud from what i can tell. Anyways he got pulled over on some BS that he didnt signal for the lane change, and while they were at it they gave him the exhaust ticket. He tells me that exhaust tickets are not correctable anymore, its just a straight fine. So i'm like WTF?! I got a Greddy exhaust, full piping, DC headers, and its not that loud. I've been pulled over a few times since i got it, but never got a ticket for it. Damn it, arent greddy systems right at the legal decibel level? (I'm in Socal) so no more fix it tix for exhausts? ****** cops

He probably got a noise ordinance ticket. In indiana if the vehicle's exhaust or stereo can be heard a 100 ft away then u get a ticket. lol but you can hear my exhaust for about 2 1/2 miles from my house and i havent gotten touched
actaully they just instated a system that allows for you actually to get your DB messured in a standerdized manner. And they could have tagged him with a noise ordance ticket, but it doesn't make sense because the exhaust is not something you can turn down, unlike a steroe. i think he is confused though, becuase you get either a moving violation or a fix it ticket
Go to a state ref. have them test the DB output, Pass (hopefully) and get a certificate that says your exhaust is compliant w/ the CA law!

I got pulled over twice for my exhaust but i tell them its legal. One time this cop wanted to be a bitch and start agruing with me and i wasnt having a good day so i was agruing back. Anyway he was like "you dont know the law i know the law" and i told him "yea i know the law, and it stats that anything modified has to be run through the ref and be legalized, would you like to see my papers?" Shut that ****** up and he let me go.
If your ***** legal just tell them it is, if its not (in my case with my exhaust) just tell them it is anyway
worst they could do is send you to a tester.

its true tho, now in the state of cali, if you recieve a modified exhaust ticket it is no longer correctable. my friend also had the same problem a few months back.

thats bullshit and im not going to belive it.
it doesn't make sense. they give you a ticket, its not fixable so you continue to have a loud illegal exhaust. does that make any sense? no

True it makes absolutly no sense whats so ever but its the truth. I know a kid at skool that has a Matrix muffler and they gave him that ticket, not a fix it but a exhaust ticket, 225 bucks.

Becareful though, see i have my BAR sticker to back it up, if you dont you might not be lucky if he calls your bluff. My BAR sticker is for the motor, not the exhaust, but what do they know

"dude" i might be a stoner but i'm talking from real-life experience, not some "Fox 11/Sport Compact Car" article about how they wanted to fight the law and prove them wrong (like one of those links in your earlier postings). try telling a cop in LA that yer loud *** muffler is legal, then when he writes you a ticket, ask him where you can get your exhaust dB level checked so you can clear it and expect either a.) a slight chuckle and something to the effect of "any modified exhaust is illegal, put it back to stock"; or b.) he's gonna tell you that its not a fixable ticket. i'm telling you it happened to my friend about 2 months ago.

What year are we talking domestics though? If its 75 and older those ******* could put whatever they want on it.
But now that i think about it there are alot of domestic cars that are louder then us huh? Hmm.... im with you on this one now.

The meter was placed eight inches above the ground and 20 inches away from the tailpipe at a 45-degree angle. The engine is then revved to three-quarters the maximum horsepower RPM, which in the case of the DA was 4,700 RPM, and that is where the sound level is measured. </TD></TR></TABLE>

when you go to the ref station do they pop your hood and check if everything else is emissions legal? i was contemplating not getting an exhaust so they couldn't sweat me but i may get a greddy system and then have it tested if i do get a ticket. but if they check everything for emissions too then forget it. well actually a greddy kit on a 00 si is legal right? how do i go about getting that certified? can i just make an appointment? i'll just wait until after i pass the test to add an intercooler and bov.

Me too. I got pulled over just because my muffler was stainless (RS*R) mentioned the "under 93db" pertaining to the law and he was the first one I have ever heard the state ref story from. He told me "go to a state ref and get a certificate of compliance... that way, if you get pulled over again, you just show the certificate to the officer"
word.

it also depends on the cop themself, they can either check off correctable which means fix it or not if not then its just a straight violation.
my friend got the same ticket, instead of putting the stock exhaust system on, he just forged chp signature and the courts accepted it.
