Default power door lock problem

sorry if this is not the right board but im a newbie here. Anyways my power door locks doesnt work and i brough it to honda. They said we cant fix it because you have an AFTERMARKET radio. In order to fix it i need the old stock radio. I just got the radio installed around last july and the power locks broke around Febuary. Is it really the problem or should i go somewhere else and get it repaired?

that's bull. We do those vehicles all the time without problems with the power door locks. also btw, if you have a 97 civic, you should probably be posting in the "EK" section...that's the appropriate one for your generation of vehicle.

thats nuts, never heard of an aftermarket radio aftecting power door locks. First off did you check the fuse for the power door locks?

From 96 to 98 Honda placed the keyless module in the factory radios. You need to keep your factory radio powered up and the green plug plugged in even when you add an aftermarket radio.

but why did it take so long to affect his locks then?

There is a harness which removes that problem....though sometimes the stock radio is just shoved behind the new one....might want to pull out the new radio and see what the wiring looks like behind there...

that sounds more reasonable, plus I did not see that he has a 97 Civic. I thought he was talking in general of stock Honda radios

It should only affect the keyless part. It should not disturb the door switch at all. Have you gone through it and checked your fuses both under the hood and kick?

My guess would be that they just shoved the stock radio behind the pioneer when they installed it to preserve the locks, but the stock radio has now gone out and killed the locking system it was attached to. Pull out the pioneer with the radio keys and check behind it...

heh...check to see if the stock radio is behind it...if it is, then you can get it tested to see if its functional. If it is still functional, then you can rule out the radio as being the cause of the problem.
