thats the thing...i rarely push the R...well i drive kinda 'aggressively' but shift around 4,500-5,000 rpms through 1st-3rd gear. I hit VTEC for the first time in two weeks today, and it was from 5,500rpms to 5,800 rpms

are you sure you're burning oil? maybe you're leaking oil. any blue clouds coming from the tailpipe? i was leaking half a quart every 100 miles; it turned out the o-ring on the air breather box was the source. check your motor top to bottom and look for fresh oil; clean the motor and recheck if it's hard to tell.

word up!! vtec is the ****, plus it is heathly for the motor to blow all the carbon and **** out if you have been putin around alot. i used to drive my R like ****** grandma, but now i hit vtec at least once a day and it seems to have a little more pep in it's step after i rev it out.

No it wont...if it's the oil rings that are haveing issues they're below the compression rings, so you'll have great compression, and the leak down will look great, however the oil rings may be worn out and leaving oil on the cylinder walls...hence the reason that you're burning oil....

yeah but the leakdown will narrow it down. if the leakdown comes back good, then chances are its just the oil rings.

You have a 20psi spread between 2 of your cylinders. Honda only allows 20-25psi difference. That could be your problem right there.

My thoughts and EXPIRENCE exatcly.

If leakdown=teh bad then goto valves
If leakdown=teh good then goto oil rings

Black smoke? ONLY at high RPM? Oil dots on bumper? COMPRESSION RINGS.
