W T F !!! cylinders are dry and kinda rusted ? HELP
alright. i got an LS motor from a friend that sat in his yard for a year or so, covered with a tarp. long story short, it wont run well, cant go anywhere, will idle for a second to a minute and i have to hold the gas down and **** some to keep it going then itll shut off. Anyways, my head is off now, and my cylinders look kinda rusty (a little) and reallly damn dry. could my rings need to be changed or what ? ill get pics up later, but please try to go ahead and answer if possible id like to finish tonight. thanks a ton
also, my crank is HARD to turn with a ratchet

Dude you seriously have some shitty luck w/ engines. I can't answer your problem but, it seems like your car is cursed.
Get some oversized pistons with rings, bore/hone, put it back together. Should've taken it apart and checked it while you had it. But then again, you were probably like me and just anxious to get the motor in.
i got some rings....
i found out the motor was turbo for a week also and the owner took it out cause it started to smoke
i guess its the rings.
honer---autozone ? and how much skill is there to honing...like can i mess it up or what

WHOA!
1) you SERIOUSLY need some oil one those cylinder walls!
2) those cylinder walls look like they NEED to be honed... at a MINIMUM!
3) my guess is that you need to take the block out and have a machine shop BORE it oversize, buy new pistons and rings too.. nice, that = big bucks... but also offers you a chance to put in higher comp. pistons for all-motor or lower comp. for boost.
4) dude, this exactly why its important to know what you are buying!

theres no way that block is coming out. this is my fourth god damn motor in the past 6 months. i dont want to go into it, but i want to hone it, put my rings in, and get on with my life without working on my car.
Dude a year of no runing makes your cylinders look like that hehe. See, as you know, cylinders are exposed to very hight temperatures. When metal exposes to those temperatures it's easier for it to oxidize, just like it happens to the exhaust manifold for example. Take it to a machine chop, get a good job done, and try.

I dont know if it was the rings, but by observation, if the rings were rusty, they probably put some shavings and grooves on them right? even small? ergo, wouldnt the pistons be scratched too? and wouldnt that lose compression resulting in bad performance on every aspect? Therefore, replace rings with stock? and maybe piston heads?
I am no expert, just going through the thought process I learned from here and tearing apart my uncle's motor.

that is one nasty lookin motor. first of all
on you for getting an engine that had been sitting outside for a year, second I would not use that engine at all. Since you want to use it I would get a scotchbrite pad and clean all that rust around the sleeves and wash it out real good. Make sure you clean that thing real good if not some of that might clog up some of the coolant pasages.

i woulda atleast put some oil in the cylinders and cranked it without the spark plug wires on the plugs to lube those puppies up. its worth a try and it doesnt seem like you want to put any beans into it.whoever sold you that shizmo wasnt a friend haha. i hope they gave it to you for cheap or free even.

hone it (crosshatch pattern) get new rings since its must've gotten fucked up when u turned your car over, if thats my car n im stuck with that engine, i wouldve bored it out bigger pistons, bigger connecting rods, molly rings= bigger HP!

heheheheh oh god I'm sorry I just started cracking up. But seriously I'm sorry man thats not cool, but just keep it simple. If you want try honing it with new rings but if all else fails just get an old stock d-series that someone swapped out for cheap. At least it will work.
