Default HELP!!! Turbo XS type-s BOV

i've had a turbo XS type-s BOV on the car since turbo'd. it makes a "tss-tss-tss-tss-tss...." (excuse the sound effects) sound when i back off the throttle and NO sound when revving at idle. I always thought this was the individual sound of this BOV but now i'm reading h-t and i'm worrying if this is compressor surge all along. Is this BOV supposed to whistle? what could be wrong? HELP!!!

Turbo XS BOV's tend to sound like air breaks pshhhhhhhhh if it flutters like a flock of birds but like 10 times faster you got compressor surge.

You have to take apart the BOV and remove the shims (washers) til the surge goes away. If it still surges with no washers then you'll need to cut the spring inside.

No, adjusting the BOV will not affect your idle.

I doubt it's compressor surge. With 10psi of boost and 4 washers, my type s makes a nice clean sound. When I roll into boost slightly, then back off, it sounds choppy. If I remove all the washers it sounds great, but blows off all the time even when I don't get into boost. This got on my nerves real quick.

Try cleaning the piston with metal polish, and lubing the bore with sewing machine or hydraulic oil. How many washers are in there?

thanks for the help guys, i tried re-doing the vacuum just now...i'm getting more blow-off now but it's still choppy. I'll try cleaning off the piston next.

My turboxs type h BOV was doing the same thing and it finally jamned this past friday and i called them on the phone and they said it was a defective BOV. Luckly im in MD and only about an hour from there head quarters i drove there and they swaped me out with new one. The new one makes the nice ppSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH sound instead of the sneezing sound

ok, this is what it's down to...
i re-ran the vacuum and the boost gauge now seems more responsive, and i feel less lag on the turbo....(vacuum leaks are a bitch). when i rev the car and let off, i see the BOV make an attempt to move, but it just isn't...is my BOV defective? or am i doing sumthing wrong?
