Houston R's (regarding theft)
I was watching Ch.11 last night and they had a piece on auto theft. They interviewed this one guy who bought a '99 Integra and it was stolen. So he got another one and it was stolen also. They showed pics and of course its what we're used to seeing, no engine, interior, etc.
They also interviewed one of the auto theft investigators and he knew what was going on apprently and stated that the recent uprise is due to the fact that all the integra parts directly fit on civics which "can make it a fast little civic," as he put it.
They kinda put the blame on the street racers who know what they're doing and know what they're after so that why so many integras get stolen. Although they did not mention the Type R its obvious that the local authorities have finally caught on to whats really going on.
It kinda makes me feel better to know that someone out there sees whats happening.
I tired seeing if KHOU put it on their website, but no luck

I can see good and bad coming out of this.
Obvously the good is that the authorities are becoming aware of the problem, or at least the fact that their awareness is being public.
Downside, those of us that are legitimate import owners may get harassed more. Dunno. I haven't had many problems in the Integra...CRX, different story.

Around the Detroit area back in the late 80s early 90s in a couple of different suburbs police officers were pulling over Mustangs and randomly running VIN numbers on doors, deck lids, hoods and motors looking for stolen parts. Mustangs had the same chassis from something like 78-92ish so the parts all swapped around. It might be a slight inconvienence but overall the # of thefts dropped, I'm all for keeping what is mine, mine with the help of the police.

I would love to see cops target civic owners. Stop them, and check vin and motor numbers. If the vin on the engine comes up as stolen, or you don't have a vin on the engine, you go to jail and lose your car.
That would make me happy

Very true. I got pulled over a number of months ago at 2:00 am. The only reason was because the cop wanted to make sure the car was mine. I didn't mind. He was nice about it. Even complimented how the car looked.
