I've heard in my research the d16a6 block is the best built. See if you can throw some p29 pistons in there to raise the compression a bunch.

If you're serious about building a SOHC and want some good power, don't bother with vtec cuz you can get more agressive cams for the non-vtec which means more power..

Unless you are thinking turbo, then by all means go with a mini-me setup cuz you won't really need to do much cam wise anyway.

But yeah, a6 bottom with p29 pistons give some good compression.. I'm looking at doing that with my a6 shortly, would net me around 12.1:1 compression. right now with my mil and y8 hg i'm at like 10.1:1

Do d16a6 with y8 vtec head, VX pistons, bored, sleeved, blah blah blah and itll up the compression a bunch. Get pretty much any sort of single cam vtec aftermarket cam(exospeed, skunk 2, etc.) and youll be in the 14's with a full interior CRX. If youre staying all motor use a 1991 CRX Si trans and for turbo do DX. Theres some simple **** youll learn after a while. Youll become a honda-tech memeber after like 2 weeks. or a certain amount of posts. Let me remind you that as a trial user you are limited to 5 posts every 24 hours I hope I and the rest of us honda-techers are some help and welcome to the club
