Default 1985 Civic VSS wiring problem.

Hi,
Hope someone can help. A freind of mine has fitted a B20 VTEC into his 1985 civic. It runs and pulls well with plenty of torque but can't activate VTEC. All the wiring to a ECU from a european spec 1991 B16a civic is done, except this.
His chassis does not have a Vehicle Speed Sensor that is needed for Vtec to activate.

Does anyone know a way around this, or a fix using a resistor or something, he really don't want to have to wire the vtec to a switch.

Anyhelp greatfully received

Thanks

What cluster are you using? There needs to be a signal wire from the cluster to the ECU to see the speed signal.

Hw is using the original that came with the 85 1.5 injection chassis.

Does he need a 88-91 cluster?

more than likely, I don't see how to get around it without using a cluster that gives a vss signal

So will the 91 cluster fit from a Ef civic?
Will it drop straight in? Or will he have to start chopping the cluster wiring around as well?

Hey mang tell your freind to go to http://www.redpepperracing.com

there you can learn how to wire the VSS from an 84- 87 crx hf in the the stock cluster.

your friend DOES not need to try to wire in a cluster that most likely never work, you just need to mod the one he has.
