Now this is a topic i needed to post.

I have been having problems with my oxygen sensor and took it in to honda. They quoted £350.00 to have it sorted. I decided to get my own sensor and fit it my self to save some £. It cost me in total £40 and i fitted it.

Unfortunatly it didnt solve the problem. I practically did everything i could and ended up taking it to a jap garage in the end.

Very quickly they sorted it out. They told me that i need an oxygen sensor from honda and that the sensor i had brought wasnt the right one. It was a lamba sensor rather than a special honda one.

They told me that honda sensors run alot lower ampage and that the lamba sensor wasnt the right one. They also said that it grounds through the ECU rather than before the ECU so i could of even damaged a part of my ECU.

How much of this is true, regardless they are currently fitting the new sensor and are going to call me when its completed.

It sounds like the resistance of the pre-heater is wrong. You were getting code 41, which is the heater not the actual sensing element. I think Hondas want a preheater resistance between 10 & 40 ohms. That's like 5 to 20 watts. I don't know if UK Hondas are any different, but I though that was kinda typical of other cars, too. Maybe not absolutely universal for all cars??

Most cars call it a 'lambda' sensor... The sensor itself is always very low current, but the preheater power IS grounded thru the ECU. So that part sound like it's true.
