please read, i need help badly...car broke down again
My car died on me for the second time tonight in the past 2 weeks.
It drives fine and then loses power and then the battery dies. I went through each of the fuses and found that my 7.5 alternator was blown. I jump started the battery, replaced the fuse and the car started. Drove for about 15 feet and then it died again. Checked the alternator fuse and it was blown again.
What would be causing the car to die and blow the fuse? Faulty alternator? Faulty wiring harness?
Could the installation of a obd1 chipped ecu cause this to happen? Or even a vafc? Both of these where installed 1 day before the first break down happened.
My car needs to see a mechanic, and it is going to, but a lot of mechanics don't really know what to do when the chassis, engine, tranny, ecu, wiring harness are all from different years put into one car...but a lot of people on this board do know about these things, so please help

Unwire the V-AFC and see what happens. Sounds like you have a wire that is not corrected right, or may be somewhat bare and is touching something to cause the short...

I have seen ECU's cause a failure blowing the 7.5 alternator fuse (ELD circuit).. but the fact your car is a "Frankenstein" of many parts may not be easy to diagnose..
It would be a good starting point if you have the original ecu or can put the ecu back to its original state back into the vehicle and go from there... I don't see a conflict with an OBDI chip, but the software on that chip isn't much different then the software on your pc.. It don't take much to corrupt it...

pull out the vafc
it sounds like a wire is grounding out somwhere that it shouldnt be.
