Too lazy to start another thread but anyone know if a dremel can sand down a good amount of metal?

what do you think? I got some rust on my inner fender on my ek, I want to sand down that edge that is at the bottom of the rear fender where it's about 1cm thick maybe 3 I don't know , anyone know what im talking about? Do you guys think it would look weird if I sanded that whole piece down? both rear fenders might I add.
someone please say they know what im talking about it's hard to explain. This is how I am thinking of getting rid of the rust

good idea or no?

Go to a body shop and pay to have your rear quarters redone the right way. You'll regret trying to shortcut the process when you have to redo it every year.

yeah I just plan on shaving that whole piece off because right now it's just surface rust and if I cut that peice off the rust would not devlop and start to rust again.
I am bringing it to the shop and right now I don't need new 1/4 panels mine are fine and not rust through, it's just begun so I want to shave that peice off on both 1/4 panels so no more dirt can get trapped on top of that peice

I don't know if anyone knows what im talking about, I wish I had pictures

1/4panel, where the bottom folds in I want to shave that right off, I hope that made sense

anybody know if that would look ghetto?

you can't. the inner wheel well is welded and folded over there.

 

yeah, but Im thinking of getting a shop to chop of 1/3 of it

 

Repair it yourself lazy dude.
Save some **** money.
Sand it dawn to bare metal.
Spray some rust inhibitor then prime then paint then clearcoat.
Done.
Cheap.

These cars we drive are not Mercedes DIY.
Keep it cheap.

 

Yeah I was thinking of a DIY but if I leave even one spot of rust on there it will just start all over again and I don't have the proper tools to do it by myself, the only tool I can think of is a dremel to sand it down, and I have no idea how powerful a dremel is, anyone have any idea if a dremel can sand down metal?

Yes, it can. I do it all the time. I've even used the cut-off to go through hardened steel rods without a problem. Just let the tool do the work, and don't force it.

 

the dremel will work i used mine to cut off the lip in the back fender. instead of rolling it. like the last guy said dont force it though.

 

I just used my dremal to grind off some surface rust inside the engine bay, right above the transmission and below the firewall area. My hand can reach in and the area wasn't too tough to work with.

I used rust remover first, grind, wipe it clean and used black rust proof paint. It was a one arm job since the engine was in the way. But hopefully that will stop it for some time.

Hey man did you cut off the same lip I am talking about? where the rear rolls in?
