b16 vs. sohc turbo
Im in a situation right now where i've been offered the option of trading my b16 swap for a z6 turbo swap including just about everything. I only have to pay for the harness and block. I've spent some time around swapping motors i.e., watching my b16 getting swapped into my CRX, but couldn't do the work by myself. So basically I wouldn't have to pay this guy to install the turbo swap and would just pay for the block and harness so he could make some $$ of this trade.
Good idea?? (his turbo setup made 170 WHP and 170 lb/ft)

I want the car to be a daily driver, but I wouldn't mind the 30 xtra hp and the 60-70 xtra trq. The only reason why I am considering is because I could have those #'s for only a few hundred $$'s.
Well, i havent owned a b16a crx before, but ive been in them, and well, it depends on what you plan on doing. If you can get some more money, then keep the b16a, because ive ridden in a turbo b16a, with stock internals, pushing over 250, maybe it was 270 whp, and it was a blast. Wasnt expensive either. I myself now have a small ihi turbo pushing 9 psi on my z6, and its sooo fun, but theres only so far a d16 can go on stock internals. THe b can push 300 on stock internals, where teh d is limited to about 200 safely, but i ve seen 215 being put down on a daily driver z6, stock internaled. Its really up to you, how far do you want to go.

I owned a b16 crx and finished a z6 turbo on my friends hatch this past weekend. The z6 at 6psi was definately quicker than the b16 crx.
But the downside to turbo setups is the constant maintenance and tuning. Along with sketchy reliablilty.
Since you already have the b16, I would peice together a kit (with help if not experienced). I'll bet in a couple months of owning the boosted z6, you'll want more power. Be patient.

That's pretty much the idea. I'm not in a position to build a turbo setup for the b16, so im thinking the sohc turbo would be the most fun for my budget. Thanks for the feedback. Any talk about reliability issues the z6?
you should keep the b16. 1. its in your car already 2. whithout money to throw around then the d series is pushing the most horsepower its gonna 3. the b16 revs to 82 and has vtec, which is fun, and to repeat info already posted is stronger internally, so saving the money for a turbo on the b16 would better IMO.
my vote is stay N/A
just spend the few hundred bucks to build ur B16.. (ie: cams, valves, pistons, p&p)you'll get the same kinda numbers... plus more reliability.

building up a single cam n/a or turbo would be a good project, but its a lot more time and money than just starting with the more powerful motor from the start.
I didn't spend too much. you just have to research and buy the necessary things you need , not the things you want
I say SOHC turbo
but im biased
