Need advice on amp + sub options for my integra
sorry if this is a little long... i currently have a one 12" box, and two 12" subs (so i can switch them out if i want to; bought the 2nd from a friend). one sub is an infinity kappa 12 (not a kappa perfect; 300watts RMS), and the other is a kicker compVR (400 watts RMS). the amp i had before was a cheap Planet Audio 600/4 amp (4 channels bridged to the sub), but that blew on me. so i'm trying to decide what to do.
i could:
buy a decent 300-400watt rms amp and put my system back in my car. i could buy an amp online for not too much, or i could buy the amp from circuit city and get a warranty (in case it blows again), but that is more expensive.
or:
buy the sub setup i wish i had; one 10" kicker L7 + kicker 600.1 amp + box for it. a 10" L7 would be probably pretty loud in my 3door integra i think, louder than either of my 12" subs. i would spend slightly more than i would on just buying an amp from circuit city (if i bought it online, probably)
i really dont want to spend more money than i have to, b/c im trying to save for college. but im gonna have to spend some money in order to get bass in my car again. if im spending a lot of money already should i just go all out and spend a little more on a better setup? when i had my 12" sub in (either one), it was loud, but the sound quality wasnt that great. the SQ of my buddy's 2 12" L7's in his jeep are so much better than mine was, so it makes me want to upgrade what i had. but supposedly the reason my SQ might have sucked b/c the amp i have before was 4 channels(??). i cant decide what to do though

well, u shouldnt bridge a 4 channel down to one channel, that is probably why it blew.
I work at a car audio shop that sells kicker. L7s are nice and put out more db's than any other sub their size because they have more surface space.
What configuration is your 12 CVR? dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm?

the CVR is duel 4ohm. and yeah, somebody told me the reason the amp blew + why SQ wasnt that great is probably because of the 4 channel amp being used for a sub.

how would this amp be for the 12" sub?

audiobahn 400 watts RMS. perfect for the kicker (according to their website it is 400watts RMS), but 100watt's greater than my 12" infinity can handle. if i had that amp and wanted to put the infinity in, could i turn down the power on the amp?

Don't buy anything Audiobahn.
I have some amps for sale if you are interested. Hit me up on AIM at a98tegLS if you wanna make an offer on any of them.
1) Rockford Fosgate Power 800.2
2) Boss War W575
3) JL Audio 500/1
4) JL Audio 1000/1
I also have some subs, but it seems as though you are more interested in an amp.

i've been looking online for amps, and i can't really find a good one that runs 300watts rms at 4ohms. most the ones i see are like 400-500watts at 2ohms, or 200-250watts at 4ohms. i've only been looking at one-channel amps though. would it be a bad idea to buy a 2-channel amp and bridge it to the sub? i know it wasnt good to bridge my 4 channel amp to the sub, but is it different with 2channel amps?
for example, i found this amp:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com...13889
it says:
Power (WATTS/CHANNEL), 4 Ohm Bridged Mono: 300W
that'd be about perfect for me. plus kicker amps are probably pretty good, and it's only $225. is that a good amp to buy for my 12" sub?

I would suggest you getting a L7, they are very efficiant and only need 200 watts to sound good...In my prelude I have a 12" L7 running off of one channel on a new rockford 500 and it sounds good, very good at it only cost like $400 for the whole setup. If you are interested I have another L7 I'll sell in a sealed box for $150, almost new only used for 2 months in my concorde but then I got the audiobahns big boi awt15x's. Let me know if interested.

i think i'd rather just keep the sub i have now for my car and just get an amp to power it. it was plenty loud enough for me anyway. my question remains though about the amps: is it okay to get a 2-channel amp and bridge it to the sub, or is it better to be a mono-amp?
i found that kicker 2 channel amp that puts out 300watts rms bridged, and also another alpine amp that puts out like 350watts rms bridged. im thinking about getting one of those, since i cant find a mono amp i like. is that a bad idea?
edit: i think i might buy this amp:
http://www.cbrstereo.com/index...dID=8
"340 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode
stereo or bridged mono output "
would that work well for me?
edit2:
or would this amp be better? MRD 500.1 250watts rms:

actually. . . i dont really know what kind of amp i should get. my 12" kicker comp vr says it is duel4ohm voice coils, and the kicker website says this for the sub:
Model: CVR12
Size (IN.,CM): 12, 30.5
Impendance (OHMS): 2(ohm)DVC, 4(ohm)DVC
Max Rec Amp Power (Watts PEAK): 800
Max Amp Power (Watts RMS): 400
so do i want an amp that is <400 watts rms at 4ohms?

If its a DVC 4 ohm, I think you should be looking for an amp that is stable at 2 ohms not 4.
Use this wiring guidline to calculate end load:

hmm, interesting. in that case, should i buy the kicker kx400.1 amp?
200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms

All you need is an amp that is either mono at 2ohms or 2 channel bridged thats 2 ohms stable(expensive) If looking for a good mono block amp i'd suggest JL 500/1 or even the 250/1.
