Default Suspension...Most bang for the buck...

I installed my gc's and agx's over the weekend and am loving every minute of it! I was just wondering what you all thought was the best suspension mod other than shocks/springs? I am wanting a nice, tight turning car for possibly auto-x'ing later on. So, what would you say is the best bang-for-the-buck part for the suspension? Oh yeah, this is a 96 hatch.

bushings, go ahead and replace all of those. then go and purchase a rear sway (perferably a small one since it seems you are running the normal GC spring rates, small as in 19mm or so). and after that get a front sway bar and see how that works.

i wouldn't waste my time with "strut bars".

Yeah, I've read about strut bars not doing much. Replacing the bushings sounds like a good idea, although I know it is a very 'involved' job. lol!

what everyone said above. except strut bars aren't completely useless, but the other components should be a priority.

for the bushings? How much would it be to have a shop do all the work? I don't have any tools so I just wanna get a ballpark figure.

Off topic for a second... would you people think it's better to go with coilovers or strut/springs?

Coilovers usually have a more aggressive spring than just drop springs, imo. They are not progressive like lowering springs and that makes them stiffer. So, if you want comfort, get springs. If you don't mind the bumps and want really good handling, get coilovers. And do some research to figure out what would be best for you. Good luck.

What spring rates did you get with the Ground Controls? Default rates?

The three active components that control the movement of your suspension are the springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars (a.k.a. "sway bars"). Since you haven't upgraded the anti-roll bar(s) yet, that should be your next priority. However, don't go with the largest rear anti-roll bar you can find if you have soft spring rates - many people are having problems with rear subframe tear-out because they go with too large of a bar for the spring rates they are using. The bar should supplement the springs, not substitute for them.

Don't forget alignment and tires as well.

Honestly, if you intend to get into autocross later, you shouldn't have modified your suspension at all yet. I would suggest leaving the car as-is and learning how to drive it before you modify it.
