I just purchased a 2001 Accord Coupe V-6. I know that it has a factory alarm but I want to know exactly what the factory alarm does. Can someone tell me what it does?

I also would like to know what additional security I should add on top of that. I don't know anything about car alarms and I don't want to be taken to the cleaners.

20001 I've stepped into the future...

 

i dont think there's an alarm from the factory, maybe optional equipment.

the one rolls out of the factory is called keyless entry, it's pretty much a power door lock, trunk release and panic. someone could break the window and the alarm wouldn't sounds.
there's a immoblizer in the 6th gen too

 

2001 EX has factory "security", a light next to the drivers door lock blinks when it is armed. An LX most likely just has keyless entry which was often dealer installed.

My EX has a factory alarm & keyless entry. The alarm is not a shock sensor, but if you open the doors while it's armed it definitely goes off - loud as hell. Especially when you're under the car and you roll onto your "panic" button on the remote.
