Default Heat wrapping stainless steel headers bad?

so people say that heat wrapping headers is bad, because it promotes rust and cracks, but what if you wrap stainless steel headers? Stainless steel isn't supposed to rust, so do you guys think it'll be alright to do it? Also, how does wrapping a header cause it to crack? Just trying to understand TIA

some ppl said that it has to do with the heat not being able to be released

Wrapping stainless steel headers
Wrapping ceramic coated headers

You shouldn't have any issues wrapping a stainless header. It should help it if anything.

so does the increased heat make it more brittle which equates to a cracked header?

I'm hoping this is the case, so I don't have to send my header to get professionally coated (i'm a poor **** ) Anyone and everyone who has actual experience with wrapping stainless headers wanna also chime in to throw in your 2 cents? Thanks guys

look into why people do it in the first place

its usually to contain heat in the header and not have the heat go into the engine bay

what header do you have?

over time moisture can get stuck in the header wrap then detoriate the header outside.

if you take off the wrap then the header will look like hell

i vote for getting it coated

I'm ordering an AN-R, and I'm trying to figure out exactly how I wanna order it. I want to get the stainless steel version, because they say that it's stronger than the normal metal that they normally use, and well, it's supposed to not rust. Getting the coating option on top of the Stainless option, and that's just gonna break my wallet (into the $1000 range). I figure the coating does 2 things... it keeps heat in and it protects the metal from rusting. Since I'm already getting the Stainless option, I don't have to worry about rusting. This is why I'm trying to explore other "healthy" options as to what I can do about keeping the heat in and that's why I'm specifically asking if wrapping Stainless is ok or not.

See, this is exactly what I'm trying to figure out... is wrap bad for Stainless becuase it makes it look like hell, or does it actually structurally damage the metal so it's more prone to cracks and deterioration? i don't care about looks so much, so pitting and staining doesn't bother me as much.

search header wrap on archived info

i saw over 40 threads already describing it

did you ask an-r about what they recomend?

you can get a bisi header for under 900 with a coating. but there is a back order right now

thinking of pricing reminds me of how good a deal the dc or jdm 4-1 header is...

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=509047

i would just save the money for a good coating

hpc coatings reduce engine bay temps by as much as 40% from coating a header
thats good enough for me

so if I go with a good coating like hpc or jethot, should I just get the regular steel option and skip the stainless? the coating should protect the header from rust, right?

call jethot and ask them, what they think..

they would know what and how their coating works on both versions:

I had my DC JDM wrapped and drove around with it for over half a year before I sold it. No problems whatsoever. It did look a bit crappy after the guy who bought it took it off but no damage to the metal itself. I will also wrap my new Toda header in the near future. It did drop engine temp a couple of degrees ( measured with hondata datalogger) so that's good enough for me :-)
