You said "best", yet you've got only two choices. Where's the Mugen intake choice?

I like comptech for its low to midrange torque.

I like AEM for a bit better high-end with mean growl.

What is it that you're looking for? low-end punch or the high-end punch?

What else is there? I don't think the HP difference is anything to write home about... and the highest is (allegedly) Injen.

But I do love the way my AEM sounds... does that make it the best?

I would like higher rpm to be at it's peak. You know how intakes have a sticker that says that it's carb legal, are there any intake are are NOT carb legal?

AEM isn't neccesarily the best intake but it performs the best between his two choices

I'm a bigger fan of the Injen. I love the banshee wail it gives when VTEC engages. I haven't dynoed it but but have heard it is the one that produces the best gains overall.

OH yes, Injen actually out performs AEM by 1-2hp on dyno.

I've had both,

I liked the AEM but, feared the dreaded Hydrolock. Hell I saved and spent some good money on my R so I want to safeguard it as best thats possible. It's not bad enough that I live in NY "R's dissappear daily here!" I'm also on my second R. But I did not, and do not want to lose this one to my stupidity or a silly hishap whilst it ingests water and hiccups itself to death!

I chose the Comptech for it's higher level of safety, "and NO, I know there is now way of being truely Antihydrolock!"

My "icebox" performs Verywell and I feel that it certainly lends itself to the daily drive or commute that I do smoothly.

With it I also have the ability to remove the top of the box for when I want it to perform a little faster for my weekend Auto-X! Theres nothing like a short-ram style intake for some instant ON or OFF throttle response.

High-end is great if you are there ALL THE TIME! But who really is? And more than half of the RPM's is spent getting to the top end.

Driving everyday is better with the Comptech piece and it's also alot quieter.

Seems like alot of the Real racers like in Circuit, Track and Auto-X, use the short-ram for better throttle control.

Ultimately it's Up to YOU!

Good luck,

A.

can anyone tell me whether the Comptech Icebox and the MUGEN are similar? if there almost identical why does the Mugen "outperform" the Comptech?

I've been thinking about getting the Icebox just because I am sick of having to jack up the car to clean the damn filter of my AEM.

I think it's funny that so many people are worried about hydrolock, which is actually pretty rare, yet nobody says anything about how often they have to clean the frigging filter when it's mounted down there.

Probably cause it takes an extra 10 minutes to clean. What's so hard about jacking the car up, removing the two screws at the front of the wheelwell cover/splashshield, removing the filter, cleaning, reassembling? It's not like you have to pull the wheel/etc to get to the friggen filter.

My vote is for the AEM or Injen.

I dont even jack up the car. I take off the two screws your'e talking about AND the turn signal. I put my hand into the turn signal outlet and work it out. Changing the filter is no sweat at all. BUt as far as gains go, I would say aem or injen are good for street where lowend torque is used more. Open air element on the stock tube is good for track IMO.

AEM or the litterbox is a good choice

not the only choice, as you have the mugen, injen, arc....

but those are both good gains for the money

The ARC filter is a paper element and its not a filter I can just go to Pep Boys to replace. You here even has an ARC filter or a MUGEN filter?

I was really asking about filter made by Injen, AEM< ICEMAN, etc

i think the filtering element is equally if not more important than the design..a buddy that works for K&N was telling me that they were supplying mugen with its filters..but they have now switched elements again..

How about a ARC intake pipe with a Mugen Air Box. This will cost you around $1300US?? And you will get may be 5hps if you are lucky over the AEM. Just go with the AEM or any other CAI that is around $200.
