No AC in NYC summers? Youy are going to regret doing this, particularly when it comes time to sell. AC weighs 40 lbs in a Type-R; spare tire and jack are 30 lbs.
Unless it is a track-only car, removing AC is a lot of work for a tiny amount of gain.

Dumping refrigerant into the athmosphere is very bad. Not to mention dangerous to YOU.
Please do you part and be responsible. If you can't afford to have the refrigerant professionally reclaimed, you can't afford to remove your AC.

By law, you are allowed to dump 2lbs into the air per year. The R is under that. I just took the little cover off the fill valve, stuck a screwdriver in it and let the thing drain while I did something else.
The lines and condenser are easy to remove if you just pay attention to what's holding them. All-in-all it was a good weight reduction, especially since the main unit is 30 some lbs over and in front of the front tires.

.That's why the ****'s so expensive, the old stuff worked great and was cheap, but bad for the ozone.
I'm still thinking about doing it myself...
Chris...I appreciate you sending me the stuff on removing it...looks pretty damn good...I have one ? though...there is one spot where it says to remove something and discard it during the installation (under the glove box, don't remember offhand, but something was there) is that something I need to replace when I remove the A/C? thanks again...appreciate your help
I recommend his advice on getting the paperwork from acura, he was nice enough to send it to me....

if you need to drain the system of freon rather than undoing a connection , cause it makes a pretty big boom(pressure) not to mention the slight oil you'll get all over your paint. take the fill caps of and inside theres a small schrader valve like the ones on your wheels take a skinny screwdriver and put it on the valve, but before you press it down to relive the presser wrap a towel over the valve and the screwdriver that way every thing will be caugt in the towel and not the air, this takes a few minutes longer. do both valves and the system should be drained, but trust me when i say, the stuff tastes horrible when its released fast.

As for "sticking a screwdriver in it and lettin it rip"....not a great idea...I tried that too, but even 10 feet away I could not breathe...not to mention that **** sprayed EVERYWHERE, all over the engine and paint.....for $40 take it to Honda or Acura...
thanks for your help chris
