here is one way

H x W X D / 1728 = cu ft

Now this will give you OUTER DEMENSION
To Figure for Inner..subtract wood from total

ie using 3/4 mdf for box .75+.75=1.50
so as follows

14*29*16 =6496 / 1728 = 3.76 cu ft external
12.5*27.5*14.5 /1728 = 2.88 cu ft internal

have fun

Thanks a lot man! Now if jl audio says 1.0-1.5 cubic ft in a sealed enclosure does that mean the dimension inside the box? or outside?

Yep, those are internal volumes

JL 12w6v2 manual states:

All enclosure volumes listed are net internal volumes! Box volume displacement, port displacement and brace displacement must be added to obtain the final gross internal volume. All enclosure dimensions listed have already taken this into account.

Hope this helps

very cool audioroach... I wish i knew all that when i built my first box...I had to break out the algebra and calculus books, rulers, compass, and stuff to remember how the hell to calculate and measure the dimensions perfect.

I had to caluclate backwards to the frikin tenth decimal cuz the size of my trunk was not tall enough for the dimensions given by rockford....

I built a very strangely shaped fiberglass box and I was not about to calculate the volume so what I did was make the box alot longer than what I knew it was gonna be, then JL Audio was so kind as to give litterage as well as volume.

I put 2 trash backs into the box and start measuring out water. Added so many liters, drew a line, and cut the box to size.

so can anyone give me the dimensions on how to make a speaker box somewhere between 1.0-1.5 cubic ft? I just have a generic box right now, with my jl audio 12w3v2 and it sounds like crap! I know it can't be the sub, so it's either the box or my jbl 300.1 amp. I'm gonna try to build a box asap!
