Anyone with home lifts? Recommendations?
After reading the GRM article on lifts I was wondering if any of you guys have one? I have a two car garage with a 15' ceiling (guessing). And would love to install one sometime this summer and also maybe do a little work on the side.
Any recommendations? This area also is going to be where I'll be parking my car unless I build a 3 car garage

I have used both (sadly, neither in my own garage) and my only complaint with the scissor type lift is that it's no good for when you have to work directly under the car. They work great for suspension work and stuff like that, but they get in the way. The full tower lifts are obviously the best for any work if you have the budget and the space. This is where it pays to have a friend with a shop
It is hard to choose, you have four post lifts, scissor types, and the what I call jack point lifts, looks like a big single round steel shaft with adjustable lift points, usually set them on your jack points.
Four post isn't good for suspension at all, but is good for exhaust stuff, because you drive up on it, but it rules out taking off tires for adjusting or replacing suspension parts. Scissor good for suspension and motor work. The "jack point lifts" are good for suspension work, and motor work, BUT cost a small fortune.
Just my inexperienced $.02 of information. I would honestly choose for what you need.

Don't have the other lift I talked about.

i have a 2 post with the 2 point arms on each side.... its great execpt for doing preloaded suspension stuff... but for motor work , exhuast work its the best the only thing thats in the way is the pads on the jack points..... to solve the preloaded suspension problem im kinda coming up with an idea but i dont think it would be safe....
I would choose a two post above ground lift. You can work on everything with it. You can easily park your car between it as long as posts are not in way of opening your doors. Dis-advantage is width required. Here is a link to a product similar to what my friend has. $2400 or so. It is like have 4 jack stands, only a lot higher. I would get one but I don't have the ceiling height. Maybe my next garage!

I have the AutoLifters 4-post M6:

I was told that to run a 2-post, you have to have 6" of concrete in your floor. My builder only put in 4, so a 4-post lift was my only choice. It works well for most things on the race car plus gives me a parking spot for my daily driver underneath.

I bought mine from Greg Smith Equipment (gregsmithequipment.com) in Indianapolis. Good equipment and good price ($1995 with caster kit right now) and great stories.
Some guys have had friends buy them for them and then buy it from their friends "used" for half price while secretly paying the other half in cash to the friend!

I bought my lift from Fast equipment in Ft. Myers Florida. Its a Rotary brand 2 post with push buttons instead of pull levers to operate it. It also has a small screen that displays lift points for about any car out there and periodic maintenance reminders. I have had it for about2 years now and love it. Total cost for the lift, delivery, installation, tax, and 3 year warranty was $3700.00 If you want to see pics see link below on NSXprime.com
