Default A Little Help for the Newbie...Please

OK, this is going to sound lame, but I just got my ITR and I want to change the stock shift **** to the Momo polished ball I had in my last car.

How does the center console come apart? I tried just spinning the stock shift **** off, the boot seems to be attached.
Next I tried to pull the plastic trim around the shift boot up and off, no love for me. Then I tired to remove the center console. I got the back part out (no problem) but when I gave ahold of the rest of the center console the whole dash moves ( I did take out all the screws on the sides of the console).

Any ideas?????

Thanks for your help

dont remove the center console. I think all you have to do is turn the locking thing underthe stock **** then pull it down, then turn the other **** off. I think you have to turn the boot counter clockwise but i doubt that matters.

You'll want to replace the boot on a 97. Get a JDM one with red stitching... nice.

Stock **** removal - (1) pull down boot / twist.

Boot Removal / replacement - (1) remove rear section (screws hold rear section to floor mounted bracket) - works best with the e-brake down and rock rear to front. (2) remove front section (screws hold it to lower dash/console) invert. (3) remove boot (4) replace punk 97-98 boot with JDM or GSR boot (5) replace front section (6) replace rear section.

hehe.. just replaced my boot.

Thanks for the kind reception.

The car already has the cat-back mugen exhaust on it. I was thinking next about a 4-2-1 header (ground clearance) and a cold air intake. Other than that I want to stay stock for now and autocross a lot (track days too

Thanks again

Welcome CW_97_ITR_071! Nice to have another R owner in MA. Watch out for the potholes, they do horrible things to an ITR alignment.
