For those of you who had a shop install the Fd, how much did you pay? Or, what is the typical price for labor for this type of install?

 

I did mine for free!

But I would expect no less then 6 hours of shop time.

 

I've been quoted roughly $ 500.00 labor

 

$300 - $$$

 

Just install it when you also do your clutch. Say you major $$$.

 

It cost me ~$570 to install JDM final drive clutch and flywheel. $250 to install the clutch and flywheel and another $320 for the final drive b/c they have to tear down your tranny. All done by the Acura dealer.

Sorry it's not in the bay area. What I did was I told my dealer that another dealer was having a special on clutch install and I asked if they could match the price and they did, suprisingly. They didn't even ask which dealer had the special, and didn't confirm it. So I guess you could do what I did. I think they would've charged me ~$350 for the clutch install.

 

SleepyR: Wow, IMO you paid a bit too much for the install, it only costs $250-$300 cdn dollars ($170-$200USD)just to install the clutch and while the tranny is out to swap in and out the final drive gear is not that much more, maybe an extra $100USD so maybe about $350USD in total, others have stated this as well, but i know u had to put a new clutch in but you are basically paying for labour for taking the tranny down, swapping in a new clutch and flywheel is not very difficult at all.

I got quoted $600 in the Bay Area. I doubt you would find any Acura dealer (or decent shop) in the US to do both the clutch/flywheel and final drive for $300. I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

 

After doing the work myself I would have to agree that there is enough work there that if you're going to do it with care it will cost. The rebuilding of the tranny is the biggest part of the job and should represent the biggest % cost in the job. If it cost you $200 for the flywheel and clutch I would expect an extra $300 for the FD. Don't let anyone RUSH that part of the job!

And expect to pay more if you're going to go through Acura to do it!
