Default Main Bearing Help Needed

Can you double check my math on these main bearings. This is for a 95 H22 race built NA motor. Here are the specs that were measured. The numbers are averaged out as the bore in the block/cap was a little out of round. The crank was within .0002.

Crank Journal
#1 1.9680
#2 1.9680
#3 1.9679
#4 1.9680
#5 1.9681
Block Bore
#1 2.1269
#2 2.1269
#3 2.1268
#4 2.1276
#5 2.1271

The oil clearance specs I found in my Honda manual are:
#1 .0008-.0018
#2 .0008-.0018
#3 .0010-.0020
#4 .0005-.0015
#5 .0004-.0013

The stamp on my block is 3,3,2,3,3. The stamp on my crank is 3,4,4,4,5. By using the Honda manual, it says to use gr/gr, gr/br, gr/gr, gr/br, br/br.

How loose should I go? The first 3 are the same, but the last 2 need thicker bearings by 3 or 4 colors. Is that normal? What do you pros think I should do as far as color code?

I am no H-series guru, but I find it odd that there are 4 different main bearing clearance specs. On a B-series which I am much more familiar with, there are two sets of specs:
1,2,4, & 5 journals-0.0009" to 0.0017"
(service limit 0.0020")
#3 journal-0.0012" to 0.0019"
(service limit 0.0024")
I have usually found main bearing colors to be within a couple of colors of each other. For purpose built race motors, looser is better, according to most engine building experts that I have spoken to. Some have even suggested exceeding Honda bearing clearance recommendations, suggesting that the Honda specs are for engines that need to last 100,000 + miles on the street. I would suggest getting the bearings that will get you close to what you want, checking them, and then getting the bearings that will give you the exact clearances you want (if any are needed). HTH.

Anyone else? That didn't really answer my questions.

I thought it was wierd how small the oil clearance for #4 and #5 are. It throws the bearings colors way off. Does anyone know if all Honda bearings are the same thickness per color? I saw earl's chart for B-series, what about the H?

There will be some variation to the main bearing bores as the temp of the block and temp of the boring machine at the factory can change during the cutting passes.

Your choice of oil clearance will depend on the following factors:

1. Oil viscosity you run
2. Engine Temp
3. RPM run
4. Ambient Temps

for street motors sticking to the high side of new spec works good.

Note: no matter what color is prescribed by the manual you should verify the clearance with either plastigague or a dial bore guage set off the micrometer reading for the crank.
