well when i hold the clutch down then i let it go i hear a grinding sound or something is scraping against something and when i press the clutch again the sound stops. what do you guys think the problem is and how can i fix it?

 

Mines do that and I have heard that it is the throw out bearing (which means get a clutch set) or worse the input shaft bearing (getting a tranyy or the tranny rebuilt)

would i just buy a new clutch kit? how much does it usually cost to replace one?

 

its not the clutch mine does the same and we change the clutch and the sound dint stop i think i need neww trany

 

Thats the input shaft bearing. Remember that the throwout bearing works when you press on the clutch. When you are not pressing it, the tranny is spinning.

 

did you just put another one in there? If so it sounds like you put the clutch itself in backwards. I take shop at my high school and the dumb*ss's there put one in backwards in a jeep.
