are ITB's streetable?? or only for race applications? ive heard many thing about tuning the itbs like having to tune them every week. thats kinda odd or having to tune them according to the weather :shurgs: and also when you hit a bump on the road it throws them off so you have to get them tuned. im in the process of making and gathering parts on making my itbs and just wanted to know if they are streetable and how tuning would come in question with a daily driver. thanx
The symptoms you are describing would fall under a carb that was unproperly tuned. I daily drive on dual sidedraft Mikuni's. If you set them up right, you'll be ok. This goes with anything on a car.

thanx this is what i needed to know before really looking into running ITB's on my set up.

i've put over 120k street miles on a pair of dellorto 40's... that's one throttle plate per barrel, i never had a problem with 'em going out of sync from a bump in the road... and i sure can't see how weather could affect that either.
you want to try to get the throttle plates roughly sync'd up when the itb's are off of the car, search the archives for info i posted on that... then use one of those airflow meters to fine-tune the sync, the degree of tuneability there will depend on the quality of your linkage.
how well they stay in sync will largely depend on how well you maintain 'em, and how good the linkage is... you'll probably need to lube the ball&sockets with oil or something similar whenever you change the engine oil.

You'll have to call around and find motorcycle performance shops. The 954RR setup is easily the hardest to find of the Honda setups.

are the motorcycle ITB's really working good for people? I have seen treads or people working on them to fit there cars. I am going to go on a search right now

i would personally never run a car on the street without an air filter... i have seen people running custom air filters on carbs that look like they would work on itb's.
i wonder if these clamp-on pod filters would work:

i'm running cbr 954 itb's daily on my dohc zc......it is totally driveable if you know how to set up the fuel. i'm running ghettodyne w/ mine. basically i just had to condense the fuel map because of the completely different vaccum situation. i'm also running emigo universal 54 mm air filters. they are little cone filters i stretch to put over my velocity stacks. tiny bit tight, but their fine.

You're making this much more difficult than it actually is. It's not that there is something that makes them streetable, it's that there isn't anything that makes them not streetable. All an ITB setup is, is a different form of intake system, nothing more and nothing less. It's not some complicated race only special part, it's just an intake. Tuning isn't really an issue at all. It's not like something is going to knock them out of whack. There isn't really any of this "tune it every week" bullshit. Hell, we're running a setup with a stock P30 and have no issues at all, the only tuning we ever did was adjusting the butterflies to allow for more consistent vacuum.

Am considering this for my current motor; are there any problems with icing if your drive your car in winter climates?

No. You shouldn't lose any torque at all.

I don't believe there would be problems with ice on the runners or velocity stacks. They should run fine, with the exception of idle quality which will suffer during any extreme temperature change.

As far as icing goes so long as you keep you hood on then the underhood temps should keep the ITBs/carbs warm enough to prevent icing. I had a vw bug and had the deck lid off once it got cold at night then it would ice over and this was in Monterey Ca once i put the deck lid back on it was fine. Now if it gets to be 10 degrees below outside then YMMV.
I have seen some filters that will fit over the velocity stacks. Either from pierce or one of the other carb places. The pods should work fine as well. The guy crying about air filters up there..
sure you have a considerable investment in you motor but I have never seen one of these motors that didnt get torn down once every 1-2 years to be refreshed anyway. It happens I wouldnt stress over an air filter. I wouldnt take and intentionally dump dirt in either but I wouldnt stress over an air filter.
Oh and someone please define "streetable for me" you wont ever get 2 people to have the same definition. Many people say that pillow ball mounts are not streetable but I been running them for almost a year now. Everbody has a different threshhold of pain. I could go on but you get the point..

why wouldnt you be able to? its just swapping one intake manifold for another.

for all you guys running them on the street, two main questions
1. how are you supplying vaccum to the MAP sensor? Tee them together then to the map? or are you guys using the GE vaccum block
2. how do you guys run the IACV & IAT. just leave them plugged in but not attached to the manifold correct? as long as they are plugged in, u should be fine.
