Basically, when it rains very heavily (which is often), my crx leaks down from the area right above the rearview mirror. Upon removing the headliner and trim, I ran my finger along the seam between the windshield and the frame--and guess what about 3 or 4 inches worth of sealant is missing right in the middle. The rest of the windshield is sealed up nice and tight but that 3 inch area is where the water is leaking in from.

So.. The question is, will squirting some sealant up into the seam from inside the car work? Or will that just pool water in there and cause rust?

It looks like a big PITA to cut up the top windshield trim, pull up the windshield, seal it, then buy new trim and put it all back together. But it also looks like the proper way to do it.

I've been pretty **** about finding and fixing leaks, while also being really paranoid about rust so any suggestions on this one would be great. =]

 

bump from the past... my **** does this!! i havnt checked under the headliner yet though, any solutions?

 

My car does the same thing, but all around the entire windshield. I'm tried some kind of sealant but I don't think it worked. I was going to get some auto glass company to come out and reinstall the windshield, but I'm going to be gettind rid of the car. It can't be expensive. Its like $150 to install a new windshield, so basically your paying for a new windshield the labor probably isn't expensive.

 

if you take the windshield out right, you don't need to cut the trim, which is very expensive from honda. pull out the interior around the windshield and cut the glue from the inside, then clean it, apply a new bead around, set the bottom on the winshield on the 2 guides on the bottom, put the trim back on, and with one person in the car slowly set it down onto the glue.

Won't that rust the metal?
I'm thinking the water will still get past the outside trim and just get trapped in the the crack of the metal.

I say remove the outside window trim and seal it up from the outside.
The replacement trim is $40.
Honda offers 2 versions of this trim.
Make sure you get the trim for a car the has the windshield installed already.
If you buy the other one then you will have to remove the windhshield to slip the metal sleeving over the edges of the glass.
