93 Accord problem(maybe)
Well. I recently got my used 93 Accord w/ 170,000 miles on it. The car idle's pretty good. But sometimes at a stoplight, the car will shake more than usual temporarily. It doesn't happen often. But it's annoying, and worries me a little bit. Anyone know the problem? Or has dealt with it before?
OK, some questions. When was the last time you (or previous owner) did a tune-up? When was the last time you (or he) ran a fuel system cleaner through your gas tank? Did the previous owner maintain this car well?
To tell you the truth...I have NO idea. My dad bought the car up in Northern VA, so I don't know. Im guessing you're going to tell me to peroform everything u listed above? right?
Yup.
If you have no idea, and especially if the oil looks grungy and the air cleaner is filthy, I would do a 60K mile service. Look in your owners manual to see what that is. Basically includes changing all the fluids, replacing the air cleaner, fuel filter, distr cap, rotor, plugs, wires. Check timing.
If noone can tell you whether the timing belt was replaced, I would assume at 170K miles it is due. <== This is really important. Change the water pump at the same time (much cheaper while you have it apart). Check hoses.
For the fuel system, I would use Berryman's B-12 or Chevron's Techron. Dump in 2 cans over 2 tanks. After that, if you still have the problem, disconnect your battery for 5 min to reset the adaptive memory. If you still have a problem you might have some bad fuel system components, like an O2 sensor or something, but at this point you've done the basics that needed to be done anyway.

does it do the rough idle all the time or when the A/C is on? Accords are notorious for rough idle when the A/C engages. It's true on my 93 and at 310,000 miles it's still doing the same thing. Also the idle will get rough when the cooling fans kick on. Check the wires don't look cracked, you can pull a plug and see what it looks like but if your going to do that might as well change them all anyhow, Just don't want you to think that a tuneup is going to make a rough idle problem go away becuase seems this is just how Accords are.

I got in the car and drvie around. I believe it is the A/C. It only shakes when the A/C is on. Most of the time, its normal vibration that i feel in most older cars.
